What If?

Chapter Four

When I get home, Eva rushes in to meet me.

"I've been waiting for you!" She says, grabbing my arm, which shakes the bangle bracelets on her wrists.

"Why? Is something wrong?" I say, my heart dropping.

"Oh, god no. I have news. Good news," She says, pulling me into the library, one of my favorite rooms in the house. There is a certain comfort being surrounded by books, with stories bigger than yours. 

We sit on the faded leather couch which was once a deep cocoa brown, but now resembles the butterscotch candy my grandma used to always have in her purse. 
There is an array of tears and rips covering nearly every inch. Eva hates it, but Uncle Mark says it adds to the atmosphere of the room, so do the dusty old books and lamps.

"So what is it?" I ask.

"So you know Ben?"

"Sure."

"He has a  brother-"

"No."

"You didn't even know  what I was gonna say."

"That his brother is amazing, hot, and perfect for me?"

"Well from what Ben said he's a total sweetheart, and he doesn't like going to parties or anything like that, so I thought you two would really hit it off!"

"Because neither of us likes to go party? That doesn't mean we're compatible."

"But it doesn't mean you won't be."

"Eva, I'm not going on a blind date with the brother of some random guy you met at a club."

"Yes, you are, I  already told him you would, and gave him your number. You should be hearing something pretty soon."

"Eva, you did not!"

"I did. You need to start taking risks and actually living your life. I'm doing you a favor."

"Well, thanks a lot!" I say in a tone and volume I have never used before. I know I'm being rude, but in this moment, I don't care one bit. I've been hiding frustrations with Eva from her for far too long and now I'm exploding like a coke bottle after being dropped on the ground.
