Kate POV
It felt like the world had pressed pause and I watch as the paramedics work in slow motion. I sat quietly next to my mother who was losing a lot of blood in such a short amount of time. The ride to the hospital seem to take forever, but in reality it was only a fifteen minute drive. One of the paramedics help me out of the ambulance while the other two rushed my mother inside. I walk through the ER and stood in the middle of the hallway. So much pain and memories flooded inside my head. Almost five months ago, my sister was rushed to the hospital after she sustain traumatic injuries from a automobile accident. She was first taken to the trauma center before the ICU. The same hallway I currently stand in.. is the hallway Lily would enter and never leave. Fast forward to today and now it's my own mother who is being rushed in because she tried committing suicide.
"Excuse me ma'am?"
I glance over my shoulder and spotted a male nurse next to me. However, it wasn't just any male nurse. Blake treated my sister when she first came to the hospital and he was so dedicated to her health that he stuck by her side all the way until the end. Blake is a young man with blonde hair and blue eyes. I think he just graduated from nursing school about three years ago, but my sister was very fond of him and she always ask for Blake when she needed a nurse. It took me a second to compose myself before I tried to open my mouth to talk.
"Blake.."
"Katie Cat!" He exclaimed.
He beam until slowly he realize why I was here. Blake took me in his arms and hug me very tightly. I swallowed real hard to keep the tears from coming.
"I am so sorry." He whisper.
I gasp. "Is she dead?"
"Oh heavens no!" Blake said. "Your mother is totally fine! Well, not totally. But the doctors were able to stop the bleeding and they have her sedated for now."
"And the baby?" I gulp.
I know in the beginning I was very against the whole baby idea, however, my mother has already lost one child she doesn't need to lose another.
Blake slightly grin. "The baby is just fine. We were able to find a strong heartbeat despite the trauma it went through."
I nodded and thank him for his help. He led me to my mom and I was quite nervous to see her. I peak through the curtains and found her sleeping soundly. Her wrists were bandaged up and they had some sort of belt around her tummy to hear the baby heartbeat. It thud repeatedly and Blake was right.. kid got a strong heart. After a while, the nurses transfer my mom up to the psych ward where they would further her treatment. Jake sat in the waiting and I took the time to update him on the latest information I was given by the doctor.
"So what will happen to her now?" He ask.
I exhale deeply. "Well, she going to stay in the hospital for a little bit until they think she no longer a threat to herself. She will have to see a therapist everyday and I think they're going to give her medication for her depression. The doctors even talk about transferring her to a rehab."
"Shit Kate." Jake rub the back of his neck. "I'm so sorry."
"Did you call Cole?"
He nod his head. "Yea, he's on his way."
"Good."
We sat together in the waiting room for some time before Cole finally showed up. He followed me up to mom room and I could tell by the look on his face that he felt very guilty.
"It's not your fault." I told him.
He shook his head. "I shouldn't of left her by herself."
"You didn't know this would happen."
