Jason didn't know what to think. A few nights ago, he'd said "goodnight" to his fellow praetor and had gone to sleep, like normal. But when he woke up, he couldn't find Reyna anywhere, and no one else knew where she was.
Jason and Reyna had been on countless quests together. They were the closest of friends-nothing more than that, of course. To have everything go from fie to definitely-not-fine was a huge jump for Jason, and he wasn't coping well. He was serving as a lone praetor, and above that, he missed his friend.
It had been a week since Reyna went missing, and he knew nothing. Octavian was consulting his auguries for the 50th time this week, Dakota was drinking even more Kool-Aid then normal, and even the newcomers who didn't know Reyna well were taking the toll.
Frank and Hazel, for example, the newest recruits, were visibly distraught. Jason had only spoken to them a few times, but from those conversations, he knew they were very nice (and very sad) demigods. Frank was unclaimed, but Hazel had been introduced by her unusual older brother Nico (who popped up very randomly and left mysteriously) as a daughter of Pluto. Jason himself was a son of Jupiter, which was one of the reasons why he was Praetor.
While these thoughts were running through Jason's head, he was sitting in the Senate house at a meeting about replacing Reyna with Octavian is Praetor. Octavian wasn't actually there, as Jason had forced him to go check his auguries so he wouldn't be able to sway people during the meeting.
"She's been gone for a week, Praetor! You can't shoulder this position alone," one of the demigods said.
Jason stood. "Enough! I have lasted a week, and I can surely go longer. We cannot give up hope that Reyna can be found. She's only been gone for 7 days. I've contacted Lupa, and she has taken her wolves on a search party. I will not-"
Before Jason could finish his sentence, the door banged open and Octavian ran in, holding a mutilated stuffed horse and a knife. "Praetor Jason!" He cried, looking frazzled. "I just received a message through my auguries. I have learned that Praetor Reyna was taken by the gods."
Immediately, the Senate was full of voices, whispering about this new development.
"Silence!" Jason yelled, and he was obeyed. "Octavian, if what you say I true, I will go myself to Mount Olympus to consult the gods."
This was met with many gasps of surprise. "Praetor!" Octavian called. "You know that the entrance to Olympus is in New York, in the East! It is basic knowledge for all demigods that the East is dangerous and should be avoided at all costs!"
"I know," Jason said, irritated by Octavian's word choice. The scrawny legacy of Apollo would slip in any hint to indicate that he knew better than Jason. "But it's something I must do. I will not abandon a Roman-your Praetor-when she is in need." When Jason heard no objections, he said, "It's settled then. I will go to Olympus today. Octavian, you're in charge while I'm gone. Don't do anything I wouldn't do!"
With that, Jason left to prepare himself for Olympus.

A few days, a lot of monsters, and a couple injuries later, Jason finds himself in the elevator in the Empire State Building, riding up to Mount Olympus. He hopes to the gods that Reyna's there. He doesn't know what he'll do if this is a dead e.d He can't-and won't- go back to the Roman Camp empty-handed.
The doors open and Jason sees the easily most beautiful thing he's ever laid his eyes on.
Mount Olympus.
It was full of gorgeous buildings, the most beautiful of which looked new. But...it was quiet. It should have been full of dryads, satyrs, and gods laughing, but instead there was silence.
Jason walked toward the giant palace, sure he would find the gods there. Outside, however, he found a demigod, maybe a year older than him, pacing outside the doors.
"Won't let me in...they better not lie...if they don't give me Annabeth I swear-!"
"Hey!" Jason called to the demigod.
The guy looked up. He was around the same height as Jason, but with black hair, green eyes, and a very toned body. The look on this demigod's face was downright terrifying, and Jason was more than a little intimidated, even though he was an inch taller and a little more muscular. "Who are you?" The guy asked. "You're definitely a demigod, but not from Camp Half Blood. And there's no way you survived alone all this time. You're too old, and I can tell you're powerful. So who are you?"
Jason gulped, but tried not to show his uneasiness. He was normally the one in charge, the intimidating one, but this demigod seemed to flip all the rules. "I'm Jason Grace, son of Jupiter, Praetor of the Twelfth Legion of Camp Jupiter."
The other guy frowned. "Jupiter? You mean Zeus?"
Jason shook his head, getting more confused by the second. "No, Jupiter, the Roman god of the skies. The Roman conquered the Greeks ages ago. The Greek gods have been replaced with Romans."
The other guy shook his head. "That's where I think you're wrong. I'm Percy Jackson, son of Poseidon, the Greek god of the Seas. I'm a Greek Demigod, from a camp of other Greek demigods."
Jason's jaw dropped. "The Greek demigods are still alive? There were rumors, sure, but I never thought they actually...wow. This is huge!"
Percy nodded. "I wonder why the Greeks and Romans never met before."
Jason shrugged. "It doesn't make sense."
Percy shrugged as well. "While this is a big revelation, what are you doing here? I'm waiting for the gods to finish talking so I can get an audience with them."
Jason scratched the back of his neck. "Honestly? My co-Praetor disappeared a little over a week ago, and I'm trying to find her. I think the gods took her."
Percy's face morphed into an expression of hope. "Wait, what's a Praetor?"
"Our legion, the Twelfth, it the only one that survived from the days of Ancient Rome. We have a camp for our legion, called Camp Jupiter, and the camp is run by the two Praetors. We lead our troops into battle and manage the general happenings of the Legion. When-"
"Alright, that was more of an explanation than I was looking for, but thanks. So you said your Praetor was missing? Tell me about that."
"I don't know what there is to tell. Reyna just vanished without a trace. I've sent out search parties and even have a goddess looking, but to no success. It wasn't until a few days ago when a legacy of Apollo got a message from the auguries saying the gods took her that I came here."
Percy looked a little confused by the mention of a legacy and auguries, but passed by it. "I'm here because my girlfriend went missing this morning. Do you think this could be connected?"
Jason frowned. "I'm sorry about your girlfriend. I'll do my best to help you find her. As for whether it's connected...I think it could be. These disappearances happened so close together, I think it has to be. Let's go in to see the gods together. We can ask them together about where they've taken our girls."
Percy nodded. "Sounds like a plan, Jason. I hope you're on good terms with your father, because we need all the allies we can get in there."
"Oh, well I've never actually met my father...the Roman gods don't really check in on their kids. You've met your father?"
Percy nodded grimly. "A couple of times. A lot of Greeks don't meet their parents also, so I guess that's just a good thing in general. But I have to warn you that a lot of gods don't like me. Dionysus, your dad, Hades, Athena because I'm dating her daughter, Ares because I beat him in a battle when I was 12-"
"You did what?" Jason gasped.
"Er, yeah. He was annoying me. But some of the gods like me: Artemis, Apollo, Hermes, my dad. I think that's it."
"Yikes. How are you still alive with that many gods that hate you?" Jason asked.
Before Percy could answer that he had no clue, the doors of the palace opened and a satyr came out. "The gods are ready for you, Perseus Jackson and Jason Grace. Proceed with caution, for they are not in a good mood."
