I glanced over at the clock, it was 2:30 in the morning, Kendra and I were still up editing though. It was a Friday night so I didn't care if she stayed up late with me. I was editing a conspiracy theory, and she was editing a Dad Buys My Outfits she did with Ryland.

"Ken, you think it's time to take a break?" I asked, turning my chair to her.

"Yeah, let me just." She stopped talking, and clicked a few buttons.

"You wanna get McDonalds?"

"Yeah." She stood up and picked up her phone. "Is what I'm wearing okay?" She had on shorts, but her hoodie was covering them.

"It's fine." I shrugged, "We don't even have to get out of the car."

"So I don't have to put shoes on?" Kendra laughed, sticking her phone in her pocket.

"As long as you run upstairs and tell Ryland we're going to get food you don't have to wear shoes." I bargained.

"Deal." She said, and walked towards the stairs.

I laughed, and went into the kitchen to get my wallet.

"Okay, we're good." Kendra came downstairs after about two minutes.

"Okay, let's go." I said, and walked to the car. "Make sure you lock the door." I reminded her, and she nodded.

"I want fries." Kendra said, setting her phone in the cup holder. "And Sprite."

"You can get that." I responded, turning up the radio.

"I don't want this song." Kendra grabbed her phone and opened the Spotify.

"Let me guess, One Direction." I asked, in a dry tone.

"Yeah." Kendra laughed, and her laugh made me laugh.

She pointed at me as she sang, and it made me roll my eyes.

"I'm driving leave me alone." I pushed her hand out of my face and we pulled into McDonalds. "What size Sprite do you want?"

"Large." She responded, "Large fries too."

I ordered a large fry as well, but a diet coke instead of Sprite.

"Do you want anything else before I pull up?" I asked, one more time.

"No." She shook her head, so I pulled forward.

"Here." I handed her her drink, and put mine in the cupholder. "Can you put my fries in that thing?" I pointed to where the phone charger and AUX cord was.

"Thank you." She put my fries in the thing, and began eating hers.

"I actually like this song." I laughed as Story of my Life came on.

We both sang along dramatically when we pulled up at a stop light.

"Drive." She laughed, "The light just turned green."

I pulled forward a little bit, not even going too fast, but I heard a loud crash, and glanced over to see another car hitting the passenger car. When the car stopped moving, I shook Kendra, but she seemed to be passed out or something. I grabbed my phone, and her phone, and got out of the car. I called 911 first, and I was already crying.

"There was a car accident." I cried, somehow spitting out an address. "My daughter, there's something wrong with her."

"Okay, we have people coming, please stay on the line." The person said, and I nodded, calling Ryland on Kendra's phone.

"Ry."

"What's wrong?" I heard Ryland stand up.

"Ryland someone hit us, and I think Kendra is passed out or something and I don't know what to do." I heard sirens pulling up.

"Did you call 911?" I mumbled out a yeah in response. "Okay, I'll meet you guys at the hospital. I love you."

"I love you too." I said back, but didn't hang up.

A police officer came up to the other car, seeing as the guy hadn't gotten out yet. But he did get out of the car, and he was stumbling.

He was drunk.

A paramedic came up to me and asked for some of Kendra's information.

"Hi, sir, my name is Matthew. Is that your daughter in the front seat." I nodded, wiping my face. "Can you answer a few questions about her?"

"Yeah of course." I said.

"Can you tell me her full name, and age."

"Kendra Brooke Dawson, and she's 13."

He nodded, writing something down. "Okay so, some of my guys are going to get her out of the car, and then you can ride in the ambulance with us to the hospital. Do you need to call her mom or anyone?"

"I already called her other dad." I answered. "I need to call one more person but that can wait. Is she okay?" I asked, glancing at them moving the cars.

"Based on impact so far, without actually looking at her, it would be expected that she would have at least one broken bone and possibly a concussion."

I thanked him as he walked away, now approaching a police officer.

"Was he drunk?" I asked, pulling out my phone.

"Yes, sir. At the moment he's under arrest for drinking while driving, but if you see fit, you will be able to press charges."

"Thank you." I called Garrett next, not even fully expecting him to answer, but he did.

"Hey Shane. What's up." I glanced over at them pulling Kendra out of the car, and it was enough to make me tear up again.

"Kendra and I were getting food, and we were hit by a drunk driver."

"Are you guys okay?"

"They're taking Ken to the hospital." I shrugged. "Can you run by the house and get some stuff though."

"Yeah, yeah." I noticed the same paramedic coming up to me.

"I have to go, can you call my mom? And I'll text you what I need? Thank you." I hung up quickly, and the guy said it was time to go.

I got into the car, and grabbed Kendra's hand. "It's okay, baby." I said. "It's okay." I repeated, this time confirming it to myself.

"She should wake up on her own, her brain activity is normal, so we think it's just the shock." I nodded. "We will have to do X-Rays though. A couple of her ribs seem to be broken but we can't tell without X-Rays, or it'll sometimes hurt to breathe, but we can't confirm that without her being awake."

"Thank you." I somehow managed to smile.

It's okay.
