Chapter One

Alecx.

My suit was ironed to perfection. Each turn and fold was perfectly smoothed out and connected perfectly.
Maroon.
Strange colour for a suit? No. You see, I always loved to be different. Forget all the typical attire for interviews. I wanted to be different. My name was Alecx, after all.
I polished my shiny brown leather shoes to create that last minute sparkle.
Before walking out I grabbed my coat from behind the door. Making sure it was warm enough to give me some protection from the harsh winter winds. Today was a big day for me. I was going for a interview with Thomas Carter. The position was for head of security. This job would be big, I would have to protect not only him and his family but also his multi – billion pound business.

I've been in security for over 5 years now, I started as an apprentice when I was 18. The big thing about security is that you have to have no responsibilities. Your clients are your responsibility. This is probably why I didn't have much of a love life. Didn't mean I had difficulty getting the ladies in my bed on the nights I need it though...If you get my drift?

I sucked in the poison from my cigarette and held it in my lungs for a second before blowing out. My feet crunched down on the leafs on the floor that were covered with frosted snow as I walked down towards my car.

Time to get this job.

"Mr Smitton?" A lady with a bun that looked like it was stretched way too uncomfortably behind her head called me as I sat on the sofa in reception.

"Guilty" I smirked at her slightly as I got up from the sofa brushing the shoulders of my suit. Heck, I was a little nervous. The lady smiled at me and brought her hand forward for me to shake.

"Alecx? Interesting way of spelling it" I followed her as we spoke.

"Yep, my parents seemed to think I should have a unique spelling of the name" I brought my hand up to scratch the back of my head.

"Mr Carter will see you now, just walk through to his office" She smiled at me. "Also, here's my number." She slipped in a piece of paper into the pocket of my suit and winked at me before walking away.

Knew I should have worn this maroon suit.

"Alecx! – please, please come sit. Now, I really don't want you to be nervous. Would you like something to drink? Tea? Water?" I was taken aback by this greeting. I had never walked into an interview by the CEO to be greeted like this.
"Water would be lovely please, Mr Carter" I smiled and shook his hand. He dragged an ice cold bottle of water out from his mini fridge and placed it in front of me.
"Your CV is very impressive, Alexc. Your references were impeccable also."
"I strive to be the best I can Mr Carter, when I commit to something I give it 100%"
"Tell me, Alecx, why should I pick you to be my head of security compared to the other 3 people in line for this position?"
I smiled. I felt my heart beat a little faster to this question, my job was my passion so I needed this answer to secure this position for sure.
"Mr Carter, this job is my life. I will give my all to put yours and your families safety first. I will not fail you. I have such strong passion for security, I will give my life for it"
I saw Mr Carter smile as he continued to look at me and nod to my words.

I took a sip of water and smiled back.

"Alexc, I will –" The door opened interrupting Mr Carter's words.

My life changed the moment I turned to look at who was at the door. I know it sounds incredibly corny. This isn't a film nor a bloody fairy tale. Trust me, my life is far from a fairy tale. But looking at Alyssa Carter for the first time literally took my breath away. Her wavy locks fell near her waist in a hazel frenzy, she had the most adorable nose that fit perfectly in the middle of her beautiful heart shaped face. I knew I found her attractive at the time, I just didn't know I would fall in love with her.

"Oh, I am so sorry dad!" She brought her hands to her mouth to cover her gasp.
"No worries, darling. I will speak to you at home" Shit. She was his daughter? I definitely could not, should not, would not find her attractive. Shit.
She looked at me before turning around, her lips smiled slightly and my heart did a flip.

Double shit.

Alyssa.

"That's all for today folks. Remember the assignment is due next week! Please party less and work harder!" My lecturer raised his voice loud as all the students tried to quickly scurry out the door.

I pulled my long hair out of my bun before I picked up my bag to exit the lecture room. I don't know why, but I just could not do any concentrating when my hair was down, maybe because it was so long.
I looked at all the other students as they left with all their friends. I felt like a bit of a loner sometimes. Why did no one want to talk to me? I know I looked normal enough. To be fair, I was one of the eldest students here. I took a two year gap between school and university so I was nearing the age of 21. But still...

"Morning, Graham" I smiled to my driver as he stood outside my university building. "Hey, I was thinking, do you think I could grab the tube home one day? I just really want to be normal and fit in..."
"No one spoken to you yet then I take it?" I looked down at my hands.
"Well...uhm..." Graham took that as a no.
"I'm sorry, you know your father will never allow it...have you tried to join some freshers groups or something?"
"I'll definitely look into that" I stood up in the limo "Graham? Can you put this roof window down please?" I saw him laughing in the front and knew he knew what I was going to do.
I poked my head up through the open window roof and let the strong breeze drift through my hair. I know, you must think I'm crazy. But I love this. Being carefree sometimes is the best feeling.

"I need to ask my dad something quickly! Stop by at his main office please?" I said as I brought myself down from the window. I felt a rush of chill and pulled the blanket that was next to me to build a comfort of warmth around my shoulders.

I ran through reception and up to the top floor of one of my dads companies.

"Hi Lisa" I said quickly and slightly out of breath as I ran past her. She wore her usual hairstyle of a tight bun, light pink suit paired with a long pencil skirt.

I usually did this, visit my dad at his office. But today I felt restless. My heart was beating twice as fast. I felt like I had so much energy I could explode. I couldn't explain.
I opened the door expecting to see my father typing away on his laptop, but who I saw instead made my heart stop beating entirely. Well, my dad was there but it was hard to concentrate on him.

"Oh, I am so sorry dad!" I finally was able to speak some words.

Alexc Smitton. The first time I saw him. I really wish we had met in different circumstances. I really sometimes wish we never met at all. I knew the last sentence was total bullshit on my part.

He had this mass of ash brown locks that curled and waved on the top of his head that matched perfectly with his forest green eyes. It was his smile that took me to another place. He had the cutest dimple on his right cheek.
I smiled quickly and turned around to leave before I forget where I am. I needed to get his eyes and smile out of my mind.
