Chapter Two
Alecx.
His face made contact with my lower stomach and it felt like my soul was being chucked out of my body.
"You made a big mistake, fucker" I spat my words at him, then using the back of my sleeve I wipe away the beads of sweat that were dripping down my forehead.
"Enough!" A voice roared around the arena causing both me and my opponent to look towards the voice.
You see, this is the part I didn't tell you. This is where the story gets complicated, and this is why I wish I had never laid my eyes on Alyssa Carter.
"Wipe your fucking face, if he hit you on the face our whole plan would have gone down the drain" I looked up at him grabbing the towel that was in this his hand.
"Thanks" I mumbled, ducking down to get out the ring.
Fighting. That was my real passion.
"I take it you got the job then?"
"Yes...of course I did" I smirked slightly. "What do I do now then?"
Craig Clarke has been like a father to me. He took me off the streets and into his home. I was born as orphan, I never knew my parents. I was kicked out of the orphanage when I was 16 years old due to bad behaviour. Craig found me and took me in. I owed him my life.
I found myself running. My legs were aching and my feet felt like they could break by every step I took. I leaped over the huge puddle and fell flat on my face.
"Yo, kid! Get back here!"
I leaped back on my feet turning around to glance at the chefs that were running behind me. I was starving. I had to eat somehow.
The rain started to get heavier causing my hair to stick to my forehead like glue. I stopped for a moment to breath.
My heart was beating so fast.
Spotting a small whole in a fence I braced myself and tried to squeeze through it. I pulled myself up and leaned against the other side of the fence. Bringing my hand up to my face I rubbed it vigorously hoping that perhaps I would wake up and be...safe. Just for once.
"What's your name boy?" A man with pitch black short hair spoke to me. He looked scary but his smile was friendly. I looked over his shoulder and noticed three more men with their arms crossed and muscles bulging.
"Alexc" I said.
"Boy, I saw potential in you for the first time I laid eyes on ya – have you really got to be dumb and ask me that?"
I started to laugh lightly grabbing the chair to sit on.
"Beer?" I asked. Craig nodded sitting next to me. "I know what's next, gain their trust then gain their information"
"I knew you were smart" Craig smiled at me before taking a swig of beer. "No more fighting though boy, promise me?"
"'course"
"When do you start then?" Craig turned towards me, his eyes burning with the desire for revenge. Thomas Carter had hurt Craig's wife quite badly when they both were young. He never told me the full story but I never pushed him for one. I felt like I had no right.
"Tomorrow"
Alyssa
I chewed my pen so hard that I could taste the bitter ink leaking out from the end on my tongue. I have been sitting on this sofa for the past two hours trying to write up a plan for my university dissertation but nothing was coming to me. Having enough I decided to get up and take my pen and notebook out to the balcony instead. Fresh air is perhaps what I needed.
I dragged the dining chair from inside out to the balcony which over looked the garden. You could see the various fountains scattered across the deep green grass. My dad always loved fountains. When was young my father always said the flowing water made him feel a sense of calm. Match the flow of water to the flow of the blood around your body, deeply breath and take a minute to appreciate the
fresh air entering your lungs. I smiled to myself. Standing up I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.
The air was not fresh at all. I snapped my eyes open and wondered where that awful smell of nicotine was coming from.
"Excuse me!" I turned walking towards the man who was leaned up against the far side of our balcony wall. He had a leather jacket on that was rolled up to his elbows. He was also wearing dark black sunglasses which I thought was really weird considering it was cloudy outside!
As I go closer I had to pause and gulp for a minute. This guy was huge. His muscles were ripping through the sleeves of his jacket. I mentally shook my head of these thoughts.
"Are you incapable of hearing me or are you just plain rude?" I huffed the words out slightly out of breath.
He looked up at me and slowly took of his sunglasses. I could hear my heart beat in my ears.
Forest green eyes.
I had seen this man before, in my dad's office...that must mean he's...
"I'm the new head of security" He smirked slightly causing that annoyingly cute dimple on his left cheek to appear. "And...your dad gave me permission to smoke as much as I want out here, so if you'll excuse me" He brought the cigarette up to his lips and sucked the end hard making sure to not break the direct eye contact he had on me.
I scrunched my hands up in fists on either side of me in anger.
"How rude can you be?" I looked at him as he burst out laughing letting the cigarette he just inhaled form a cloud around me. Waving the air away I started to get really angry now.
"You son of a –"
"Alyssa! Glad you finally met Alexc, my new head of security" My dad saved him. I blew out my shaky breath.
"Dad, he's a rude idiot! Look at him, he's smoking right in front of me" I waved my arms around a bit like a mad woman as I spoke. I decided to try calm down a little as I grabbed my hair bobble from my wrist and tied my hair up in a bun quickly.
"Darling, I smoke in front of you all the time..." I narrowed my eyes. "Alexc, come with me, we have much more to discuss today" My dad started to walk towards the house.
"Sorry to rub you up the wrong way, love" He winked at me causing my heart to beat a lot faster than it already was. I tried to convince myself it was because I was still angry.
"I'm not your love!" I shouted at him as he walked away.
Oh boy, living seeing him every day will not be easy.
