Hi. This is my first book. Please don't copy anything in this story. The chapters will rotate point of view between Harper, Rory, and Zeke. Sorry about any weird spelling or grammar mistakes. Although Long Island Sound is real, Laskara is made up.  The attached picture is of Nina Dobrev who is Harper in this.

My dad is alcoholic, but only on Saturdays. Other days he's a fisherman. He was fine about Saturdays until my mother left. It was a Saturday. I was twelve.

Last month my dad decided that our old house and the entire state of California reminded him too much of my mother, so he moved us all the way across the country to Long Island Sound. Now we live in the small town of Laskara. Of course we were only able to get plane tickets two and a half weeks through August so I only had a bit of time to prepare for junior year of high school.

First Day of School

"Have a nice day honey," my dad calls from the door as I walk down the short driveway to the bus. "Thanks," I say. This is it. The first day at a new school. High school, at that. This should be interesting.

The bus is pure chaos. Students yell across the aisle and switch from seat to seat. This is certainly not what I expected. No one says a word to me for the whole ride. I'm fine with that.

I step off the bus. The school is huge for such a small town, then again there are a lot of teenagers wandering around. Now to the office! I think to myself. Luckily, I'm able to find that pretty easily. The lady hands me my schedule, map of the school, and locker information. "Hurry up, you don't want to be late," she says to me. I take a two lefts to get to my locker where I unload my stuff, only taking what I need for math and science. The warning bell rings as I close my locker. I turn around and immediately slam into somebody. I only think, "How strange I bump into someone when I could have sworn there was nobody near me a second earlier," as I fall.

It feels like everything is in slow motion. First my books fall. Second I head toward the blue tile floor. Then a large hand grabs the back of my red American Eagle t-shirt, stopping me from falling.

The hand pulls me back up and the tardy bell rings. "Crap," I say. I turn around and face the person I collided with. It's a guy that looks like every other popular jock. No one I would ever end up hanging out with. "Sorry. I didn't know you were there," I say. "No problem. I'm Rory by the way," the guy says. "Harper," I say, "I'm new here." Before I can protest, Rory reaches down and picks up my stuff. He hands me everything after reading my schedule. "I have math with Mrs. Tate first too. She's really strict, so hopefully we don't get detentions for being late," Rory says heading toward first period. I follow him. I hope I don't get a detention on the first day of school at Laskara High School. That wouldn't be good for my record.

Rory and I don't get so lucky. We hurry into class two minutes late. As soon as I walk in the doorway, Mrs. Tate screams, "Detention! For both of you! Now take your seats!"

This is not a good start to this year.
