Chapter 6 Zeke

I can't believe that Harper was that gullible. The look on her face was priceless. If someone took a picture of her face and made it huge, I would pay more than all the junk in Rory's house combined. Rory burst out laughing when she came over gushing about how sorry she was. "Dude, she totally fell for it." I said between laughs. She blushes probably as red as a fire truck. "Alright, sorry Harper. You were too easy to prey on. Let's go get something to eat." Rory says. I know that he is changing the subject because we already know that she gets angry very easily. "Yah, lets go before she burst out into flames again." I whisper to Rory when Harper gets ahead of us and I earn a chuckle from him. After Harper manages to get lost and we spend a good ten minutes looking for her we finally get something to eat. When we get in the kitchen, we sit down at the island in the middle of the room. As Rory gets out the food for our sandwiches Harper asked," When did you know that you had powers?" I thought about the question for a few minutes before saying," I found out in the worst possible way ever." I took a deep breathe before continuing. "I found out when I was nine and was bit by a vicious pit bull. All I remember was thinking that I was going to die. Then for some reason I said to the dog 'let go I mean no harm' and he let go and walked away." When I finished she looked at me and then down to my leg and asked," Is that how you got your prosthetic leg?" pointing to my leg. "Yep" I said. Just then Rory came over and we started making our sandwiches. Both Rory and I have a sandwich that has every deli meat, cheese, condiment and other toppings know to mankind for lunch. Then there was Harper, watching us scarf down our lunch while looks at us in awe, eating her wrap with turkey, cheddar cheese, lettuce and light mayo. All I am thinking is how she survives with only that much food. We all ate in silence until Rory asks," Why are you looking at us like that, Harper?" Harper thinks for a minute before saying," I was wondering how all boys eat so much so fast." I somehow found this hilarious. Maybe it was the way she looked and sounded so guilty like she had been caught stealing something but I burst out laughing and soon after Rory joined. Harper just sat looking angry. Rory looked at me with a devilish grin on his face. Oh no, I just knew that he had an evil plan forming in his mind to make her even more angry. "Whoa there Jack Jack, don't burst into flames again." Rory gasps in between fits of laughter. Once again we laughed at Harper. That comment did it, she must have been really mad because it wasn't just her arms that burst into flames it was her whole body. All of our laughter stopped. She glared at us saying," You have ten seconds to run." I didn't believe that she would even hurt a fly but I knew she wasn't kidding when she started counting down. Rory and I glanced at each other before running off, well it was more of a fast walk for Rory but a run for me. When we heard her shout two we stopped and I quickly called for some spiders to make a giant web in front of us and Rory flew up to see where she was. I waited for a few minutes before Rory came running down the hallway screaming," The british are coming! The british are coming!" before I could laugh at him joke, I see Harper coming down the hallway with a glare that if looks could kill I would be six feet under right now. Or at least that what I thought her face looked like, I couldn't really tell because the flames made it hard to see her face. She abruptly stopped when she saw all the spiders. Perfect, I knew that she would be afraid of spiders. Then my perfect, flawless plan was ruined when she realized that she could just burn all the spiders and the web down. As started making her way over to the web Rory came running around the corner carrying a bucket of water. As he poured the water on her, she screamed. Her scream was so loud and terrifying that I wouldn't be surprised if the neighbors called the cops. Instantly, Rory and I ran over to her to see what was wrong. Rory got to her first, obviously, and let out an audible gasp. "Zeke, if you don't like burning flesh, don't come over." I went over anyway and instantly regretted my choice as soon as I got over. Her skin had third degree burns all over her body. She was curled up in Rory lap sobbing. I felt so bad for her. "We have to take her to the hospital." I said after a minute of listening to Harper cry. "No," Rory said "the doctors will find out about her superpowers and will send her to a lab to get examined or worst." I said. "Well then what do we do. Her burns need to be taken care of." Rory thinks for a minute before realization crosses his face. "We can call my special doctor who knows how to treat superpower related injures. He has super powers too. Hold on let me call my mom." Rory says before taking out his phone and calling his mom.
