When Frisk opened his eyes again, he was back in the ruins lying in the flower bed. Sitting up, he looked up at the clear blue sky above, thinking of his friend's sacrifice that gave them all of this. The thought of Chara made him want to tear up again, but then he remembered something. Chara wanted to fix everything that he said he had ruined for everyone.
Standing up now, he ran back towards his home, back to where he knew Toriel and Asgore was waiting for him, only to stop when he saw Asriel hesitating outside the door. He seemed shocked to be here, but at the same time, he was happy. He didn't have any idea of what happened, or what Chara did to give him that body back.
"Asriel?" Frisk called out, making the goat boy turn around. "Asriel! It worked! Chara did it!" He couldn't help but run over to his friend, hugging him tightly as he did so. "He fixed you. You're back!"
Asriel smiled at him, slightly confused. "Chara did this? But he's been gone for years, so how could he possibly do this?"
"It's a long story, so I'll tell you later. Is mom and dad inside?" Frisk asked him, wanting to see them for himself. If Asriel was here and well, then that must mean everyone was okay again. Papyrus was probably hanging around Sans or Undyne. "Come on, what are you waiting for?"
"I'm scared, Frisk. The last time I seen them like this I died. Chara and I died... What if they don't want me like this?"
Frisk shook his head no as if to say that was ridiculous. "Mom and dad love you unconditionally. Come on, I'll go with you."
With Frisk at his side, Asriel opened the door in front of them. Together they saw Asgore reading the newspaper at the table while Toriel was baking in the other room.
"Mom? Dad?" Asriel called out, making them look back. Unable to believe what they were seeing, Toriel dropped what she was holding and stared at the boy she had lost. Asgore couldn't believe it either, but seemed to recover much faster than his wife. "Um... I'm home."
Without a second thought, Toriel ran to his side and pulled Asriel in for a hug. She couldn't help but ask what had happened before saying, "Asriel. My sweet Asriel."
Asgore joined in on the hug as Asriel started to cry with tears of joy. Frisk watched them with a smile before being pulled in as well, but he still couldn't help but feel this family wasn't complete yet. One more Dreemur was missing from this.
"How did this happen? Frisk, did you save him?" Asgore asked, unable to hide his smile.
Frisk shook his head no, not wanting to take credit for something he didn't do.
"It was all Chara. He did this, not me." Frisk hugged them tightly as he said, "he fixed the timelines. We should visit him more often. I'm sure he would like that."
Toriel thought about her first human child, remembering everything about him. She remembered how he would always run around with Asriel. She remembered how Chara would sometimes help her in the kitchen whenever she needed it. She remembered how the boys would just settle down together to either read a book with her, or even to just watch a movie until they fell asleep.
"Yes, we should go see him. I don't want to him to get lonely." Toriel couldn't stop her tears, especially after hearing how one of her children had saved the others. Chara was always going to have a special place in her heart, and it was sad to know that she would never be able to remember spending any time with him from the reset. "We'll have a picnic with him. Hopefully that could make him happy if we spend the day with him."
Frisk nodded and looked over at Asriel. Asriel nodded back at him, liking the idea. After all, if Chara gave Asriel his body back then he surely wasn't being mean anymore. After all, Frisk knew how Chara felt about now. "Yeah, he'll like that."
When they all pulled away, Toriel asked Asriel if he would like to help her in the kitchen like old times. Of course he said yes, so Frisk decided to go check on the others. Running as fast as he could go, he went off to Snowden to find literally anyone of his friends.
"Hi Frisk!" was constantly being shouted at him as passing monsters greeted him. Frisk waved back at them, happy to see everyone he knew walking around. Jerry, Froggit, everyone was around and safe.
It wasn't until the sight of the familiar two skeletons standing in front of their home, just talking, came into view that Frisk began to rush. Just seeing his skelebros there was enough to make him cry. He ran over to Sans, and with no warning, hugged him from behind, almost knocking him down.
"Hey kiddo, what's up? A little heads up next time, alright pal?" Sans said as he returned the hug. "Was everything alright? Is that dirty brother killer gone?"
"Chara's gone, but don't call him that. Please, don't call him that." Frisk teared up a bit before saying, "he's the one who saved us. Chara saved all of us."
Sans noticed how Frisk felt about the boy, and thought back to his final moments before the reset. Chara was determined to keep Frisk out of the way, but now he could understand why. Chara was trying to protect Frisk from that creature the entire time. Unfortunately, he wasn't around to see how it ended for the others, but he's heard about it from an old friend.
"I know, kid. I'm sorry," Sans looked down as he thought of how they were back then. He never really thought of Chara as evil back then, but it wasn't until Gaster warned him that he began to suspect something was wrong. "Chara gave up a lot, huh? I'm sure you miss him a lot."
Frisk nodded before saying, "he didn't want to come back. He thought that he would cause trouble again if he did."
"He may be right about that, kid. Chara is different from you or me. It seems to me that wherever he goes, trouble seems to follow him." Sans pat Frisk's head, making sure that Papyrus wasn't listening in. "Gaster told me that he watched Chara die before you guys got there. He told me that Chara was talking to Player for awhile, and apparently, Player warned him that he would come back one day. Chara probably figured that was a good reason not to risk coming back. He was finally free from all that."
Of course, Frisk understood why Chara would end it that way, especially with Sans's explanation. Chara was trying to prevent the worst case scenario for everyone by giving up what he wants for them. As his friends started to gather together, Undyne and Alphys soon joined them for a nice meal at Grillby's. Papyrus and Undyne were both disappointed that Grillby didn't offer spaghetti, but didn't mind much. They just sat around and talked about normal things. Apparently, Mettaton was going to be in a new show. This time a drama.
Of course, Frisk should be happy, right? Everyone was here and alive. Asriel got his life back. Papyrus got his brother back. Undyne and Alphys were as strong as ever. Even Toriel and Asgore seemed to be okay now. Still, it seemed as if something was still missing to make this perfect again. One person was missing before Frisk could consider this a true happy ending. And that one person was Chara himself.
Frisk doubted that Chara went back to his own timeline, especially since Sans didn't mention anything about Chara going back. He was gone. Just gone. He couldn't just accept that. He wouldn't! Chara needed to be here with him. They promised each other that they would stay together. They had to be together. That way this could be complete.
"Hey kid, give it time. Chara may just surprise you one day," Sans patted his back with his usual smile on his face. "Just... I'd recommend you wait a little while before giving up on him. Chara is known to be unpredictable."
"What do you mean?" Sans just chuckled at Frisk's question before shaking his head no. "Sans, what do you mean about that? Can Chara...?"
Without answering, Sans shrugged and walked out of the restaurant. He mentioned something about going to work, and appreciated the praise Papyrus shouted out at him.
