LYDIA HUDSON
"I can't answer that, I mean—I would love for him to be in my future but it's unrealistic, we haven't even had a real conversation." I answer, telling nothing but the truth.
taylor huffs and I gaze at all the kids, running around and playing with their siblings and friends. it made me miss being a little kid. you never had to worry about a thing, life just seemed so easy. but as soon as you grow up, life just throws the worst things in your face.
I glance over at taylor and notice the frown that was on her face. "you okay?" I don't hesitate to ask and she looks my way, without making eye contact with me. "yeah, I guess. it's just I was thinking," she pauses and my eyebrows meet.
"about what?" I ask and she shrugs, "it's nothing. never mind." she shakes it off and gets off the swing, turning to face me and then gesturing for me to follow her. I guessed we were going home since we had spent a couple hours here, surprisingly.
I hesitantly get off the swing, not wanting to walk home in the heat.
as soon as we step foot inside my house I sigh in relief. "it feels so nice." I practically moan and taylor snickers, throwing her phone at me. "hey, what was that for?" I question and she folds her arms, "order some pizza, i'm starving."
I shake my head lightly, a smile forming on my face as I gently pick up taylor's phone. I hold the phone up to my ear once I dialed the same little ceasers we've ordered from the past week. The ringing stops and seconds later i'm greeted with a friendly voice.
"hi, yeah I would like to order a pineapple pizza." my eyes move from the ground over to taylor, who was smiling in satisfaction; she loves pineapple pizza. the line is quite then the voice speaks again, "lydia?"
my eyebrows furrow as my eyes never move from taylor's. "ethan?" I whisper into the phone and I hear a chuckle on the other line. "that pizza will be on the way soon." he says and I can imagine him smirking as he said that.
A faint smile is placed on my face as I say thank you and goodbye, before hanging up and taylor immediately squeals. "you guys are adorable." she says jumping up and down, unable to contain her excitement.
her actions make me laugh, waiting for our pizza to show up.
only a few minutes later, there's a few knocks on the door and taylor's head shoots up in my direction, her eyes gleaming with excitement. my heart races as I get up off the couch and rush to the door, opening it quickly.
ethan's smile is the first thing I see and it causes the butterflies in my stomach to grow. "hey." he mouths and I push a strand of hair behind my ear, smiling at him. "hi." I say quietly.
should I ask for his number? I ponder and before I know it ethan is turning on his heel, walking back to his car. before I can stop him from driving away his car is already driving away and I stand there with a confused look on my face.
I didn't even pay him and he left in such a hurry. did I do something wrong? I couldn't help but think I must've did something that made him feel uncomfortable. was it the way I was smiling at him? did it seem to creepy?
bad thoughts race through my mind as I walk over to taylor, who's biting her lip and looking at me with wide eyes. "that was," she searches for the right word to say. "awkward." I nod my head in agreement and set the pizza box down on the coffee table in the living room.
I open the box and the first thing I notice are 10 number written on the top of the inside of the box and I look over at taylor who's innocently picking up a piece of pizza, licking her lips as she stares at the food in front of her.
I nudge her and her eyes follow my eyes to the 10 numbers that were written very clearly in black marker. I hear a gasp, followed along by a lot of coughs which made me look towards my best friend. my eyes widen when I see her face is red and her eyes are wide.
"I literally choked on my pizza." she laughs loudly, her hand placed near her throat. "he gave me his number." I say out loud to see if sounded as crazy as it did in my head. "oh my god!" taylor bounces up and down in happiness. "text him." she urges me to grab my phone from my pocket and I do so, opening imessage and typing in the number.
"what do I say?" my eyes stare down at the screen as my mind is blank on ideas of how to start a conversation with ethan.
