it's been a month since me and ethan hung out at the park, but we've still been talking and facetiming. I hop into bed and grab my phone, opening it and clicking on my messages.

ethan: why you going to bed so early?

lydia: idk i'm just tired ig
lydia: also when are we going to see each other next?
lydia: i miss youuu

10:30 p.m
ethan: speaking of, i was wondering if you wanted to maybe go on a date with me?
ethan: i mean, you don't have to if you don't want to.

10:32 p.m
lydia: i would love to
lydia: when?

10:33 p.m
ethan: tomorrow, we can go watch a movie and maybe get some dinner somewhere after?

10:35 p.m
lydia: i'll be there

10:36 p.m
ethan: no no no
ethan: i'm picking you up
ethan: be ready by 5:30 babe😘

lydia: okay, i'll see you tomorrow
lydia: sweet dreams ethan 💙

ethan: you too gorgeous <3

I smile and shut off my phone, turning to face the wall and closing my eyes, hoping to drown out the sound of my parents fighting. they're always fighting and I hate it so much.

when I wake up, I quickly grab my phone and call mia, hoping she would pick up at this time in the morning. to my surprise, she answers and her raspy voice whispers through my phone. "hello?"

"mia, hi sorry if I woke you up. I have a problem." I mumble and I hear some movement in the background. "i'll be right there, maya too." she says.

"okay, but my parents are back so just come through the backdoor, i'll wait for you in the kitchen." I tell her and she says okay. I hang up and put a hoodie on over my tank top, walking into the kitchen.

I get some strawberries and cut them up, going to sit down at the table and eat them while I wait for mia and maya.

a couple minutes later i'm already finished eating and going through my snapchat, looking at everyone's stories. I see grayson's name and right as i'm about to click on it, the backdoor slide open and mia and maya slide inside.

I turn off my phone and smile at them, urging them to follow me into my room. "okay, why did you need to call mia at eight in the morning?" maya groans and lays down on my bed. "ethan asked me out on a date and I need you guys to help me get ready."

"really? where are you guys going?" mia sits down next to maya on my bed and I lean against the wall. "we're going to go see a movie and then maybe get dinner after, so there's no need to dress up." I point out so mia and maya wouldn't try and make me look all fancy.

mia claps her hands together and goes through my wardrobe. "are you sure you're ready to date another guy? especially since you only broke up with grayson three months ago." maya looks at me with concern.

I run my lips together, really thinking about it. "of course I still love grayson, we've dated for four years and only broke up three months ago, but i'm ready to get over him." I say out loud and maya's face falls. "that's not fair to ethan, lyd." my eyes travel to mia, who was laying my outfit out on the edge of my bed.

she picked out a black floral lace swing crop top with some high waisted distressed skinny jeans and some cute shoes that matched the outfit perfectly.

before I know it, i'm ready and waiting for ethan to pick me up. maya and mia ended up leaving seconds before ethan arrived. I hurry into the car, not wanting my parents to see me walking out of the house.

I slide into the passenger seat and shut the car door behind me, making sure to put my seatbelt on afterwards. "what movie do you want to go see?" ethan asks as he drives away from the house that now was filled with negative energy from my parents.

"well, slenderman just came out and i've been excited to watch it. you down? it might be scary." I raise a brow, challenging him. "i'm not scared of anything." he smirks as he keeps his focus on the road.

"that's a lie. everyone is scared of something." I say with more attitude than I intended to. "whatever you say," he jokes.

after the movie, my whole body was shaking ever-so-slightly. that was way scarier than I thought it was going to be. my hand reaches for ethan's, feeling him being slightly shaky as well. ha, scared of everything my ass!

I laugh silently at my remark, as ethan and I walked back outside. he stops before we reach his car and pulls me in for a kiss. I pull away after, "what was that for?" I ask and he chuckles, ignoring my question and asking his own question.

"will you be my girlfriend, lydia? I know it's really early since we've only been talking for a month, but I really do like you. a lot." I stay silent, thinking about what maya said earlier.

it really wasn't fair to ethan that i'm still in love with my ex. a frown makes its way onto ethan's face as he notices i'm silent still. "is that even a question?" I smile at him and his frown turns into a grin. "great."
