listen to the song, trust me
GRAYSON DOLAN

I look over at my phone, noticing it's almost nine o'clock. ethan should've been home from his date by now, unless he already got some on the first date. it made me sick to my stomach to think about him having a girlfriend.

it's been three months since my girlfriend, lydia, left me. I haven't left my room a lot ever since. mainly to eat and go to the bathroom and shower, but other than that, I just spend everyday in my room.

part of me is still pissed at ethan, it was his fault after all. he was the one that was kissing that girl, but it's also my fault. if I would've stopped being embarrassed about my family and just let lydia meet them, then we would've still been together.

my head jolts up when I hear the front door open and ethan's voice boom through the house. "i'm home! mom, dad! come meet my girlfriend!" I quietly exit my room and make my way to the top of the staircase.

when I see the girl he brought home, his 'girlfriend', my heart drops and I become lightheaded. "there's no way." I whisper to myself and make my way back to my room, feeling my eyes well up with tears.

I can hear my parents voices, greeting lydia and they all begin to talk. I have this indescribable feeling in the pit of my stomach and I hated it.

seconds later and I can hear my mom's voice shout my name, telling me to come downstairs and eat. my heartbeat increases as I stand up and open my door, walking downstairs.

LYDIA HUDSON

my eyes widen when I hear lisa yelling graysons name. I hear footsteps coming down the stairs and I turn my head to look at whoever it was. my face falls when I see grayson, standing at the bottom of the stairs, already looking at me with wide eyes.

"grayson." I whisper and cover my mouth with my hand as my eyes never leave his. he's biting his lip, stoping himself from crying. I can tell he's trying so hard, but so am I. sean clears his throat, "do you two know each other?" I nod my head slowly, uncovering my mouth and turning back around to face his parents.

"how?" lisa asks and I swallow the lump that formed in my throat. "we were really good friends throughout high school." lisa's lips form an 'o' shape and sean's eyebrows pull together. "I knew i've heard the name lydia before." my cheeks turn red once I feel a presence next to me.

I look over and find grayson already looking down at me. a tear escapes his eye, but he quickly wipes it and looks away from me. ethan snakes his arm around my waist, leading me into the kitchen, where a table with five chairs are at.

lisa claps her hands together as she sits down, "let's eat. luckily, I made my one of a kind, chicken alfredo." I smile at her attitude and scoop up some alfredo after everyone else had. grayson was sitting across from me and I couldn't help but glance at him every once in a while.

"so, since ethan is grayson's twin, I suppose you also knew ethan in high school as well?" sean asks me and I clear my throat, while ethan chuckles. "no, actually, I didn't know ethan. grayson never mentioned having any siblings." I glance at him and frown once I notice he's looking down.

"oh, then how did you and ethan meet?" lisa questions as she puts her cup down. ethan lets out a loud laugh this time, making me giggle. "you won't believe it, I was her delivery boy. she called in pizza everyday because she couldn't get enough of me and eventually, it led us here." he grabs my hand, squeezing it.

my eyes drift over to grayson, noticing he's standing up and brushing his hands off on his sweatpants. "where are you going?" ethan speaks up and grayson glares at him, making ethan tense up beside me. "to get fresh air. thanks for the dinner mom." he says and pushes his chair in, leaving his plate full of alfredo on the table.

"i'm going to go talk to him." ethan is about to stand up, but I stop him, letting him know I will. he gives me a look, and I smile before standing up and quickly rushing out the front door.

it was dark outside, but I can easily spot grayson's tall figure walking away from the house. "grayson!" I shout out, causing him to only walk faster. "please just let me explain." I call out again and he stops, turning around quickly. "you don't deserve to explain anything, you wouldn't let me, why should I let you?" he spits.

my eyes droop when I get a really good look at his face. he had bags under his eyes and his eyes just didn't have the same light in them like before. "gray-" "no, lydia. I don't want to hear it."

"i'll let you explain what happened at prom, just hear me out okay?" I shout, angry that he wasn't listening to me. he turns back around, starting to walk and I walk next to him.

"that wasn't me, that was kissing that girl. it was ethan, I would never do that to you." he says when I least expect it. "i'm sorry I didn't listen to you. I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions and I should've let you explain."

"yeah, you should've. we could've still been together." he mumbles and my lip trembles. "did you really get over me that fast?" he stops walking and looks at me. I shake my head, "of course I didn't. I just thought being with ethan would help me get over you, and I know that's unfair to him because I still love you, but I really like him."

his rubs his lips together, looking away from me. "but are you in love with me?" a few tears slip from my eyes, "I am, and I always will be." his bottom lip quivers. "gray-" "i'm so in love with you, lydia. but ethan has you now. I can't take you away from him, I don't want to hurt my bestfriend. i'm sorry." he says before planting a small kiss on my forehead and walking back towards his house.
