"Just say what you're thinking Sonya..." Yara grumbled as she stared up at the ceiling. She was inclined against her pillows with bandages tied around the stumps where her arms once hung. Yara had not had the stomach to look down at them and she did her best to avoid seeing them and the only way to do that was to keep her eyes on the ceiling above her. Her sister however could do nothing but stare at them. Sonya was not trying to make her feel uncomfortable but there was anger in her that was directed harshly towards Yara. Not much words had been passed between them since that horrible night of the Midnight Ball and everything that was said pertained only to Sonya's insistence to cater to her sister.
"I have nothing to say..."
"Liar..." Yara accused; her voice hardly holding a threat.
Sonya did not take the bait. She was so angry at her sister that she was avoiding opening up because it would mean she would have to say the harsh words that were burning the back of her throat. Yara had suffered enough hadn't she? Surely her lesson had been well taught right?
"How do you feel?" Sonya asked; her voice void of any emotions.
"Better now that she is gone..."Yara mumbled with a slight smile.
Sonya arched a brow in disbelief; what did her sister just say? Even after all that had happened to her she was still harvesting her hate for Cassandra? Was Yara truly her blood or did they just share the same visage? Never in a million years could Sonya hate someone without cause as much as her sister hated Cassandra. Yara hadn't even taken the time to get to know her but she immediately hated her from the moment Julius brought the poor girl to their home. Sonya could hold it no longer. Her lips trembled with disgust and her eyes welled with blood tears.
"What is wrong with you?" She whispered because she couldn't trust the sound of her voice just yet.
Yara turned her head and frowned up at her sister. She sat up slowly and instantly her concern for Sonya swelled.
"What is wrong Sonya; why are you crying?"
"Yara!" She yelled; her frustration boiling over.
"What? What? Why are you yelling at me?" If it was one person Yara could not bear to see cry or be upset in any way it was her dear sister. She hated to see Sonya cry when she was such a gentle creature filled with an endless depth of love.
"Why are you so evil? What has turned you into this person?"
"Evil?" Yara tasted the word on her tongue and it was bitter. Speaking it with her own voice, she could not comprehend what her sister meant.
"Open your eyes Yara! Are you not going to acknowledge that your petty and completely stupid actions have caused you to lose everything? Julius will not want anything to do with you any longer; he will probably see you dead the moment he comes to find you."
"But I haven't lost everything; I still have you Sonya. You are still my sister are you not?" Yara's voice had gone small and frightened. Perhaps she was not as dense as Sonya was beginning to believe the possibility of losing her sister was what was on the line for her. Sonya was seeing more than ever that Yara was lost.
"Answer me!" Yara screamed; shooting forward. She nearly toppled from her seat and Sonya caught her just in time.
"Stop it! I do not need your help!" She cried as Sonya pulled away and gave her a chance to do it on her own. She sat there holding back the tears that her sister was pulling from her. She pitied Yara but everything that had happened to her could have been avoided. This whole situation from Uri uprooting their lives to Julius lying dormant with a broken heart could have been evaded easily if Yara had just taken the time to get to know who Cassandra truly was. Sonya had done it and found a wonderful person who she could call friend. All Yara had done was plotted and schemed with the foolish Elizabeth and tempted her to make horrible decisions.
