“I hope my parents didn’t already cancel my phone plan”, Blake said, standing next to Alyce on the sidewalk in some downtown looking area. He grabbed his phone out of his pocket and quickly dialed a phone number. After a few seconds, he said, “Hey Darcy, I have a big favor to ask.”

“What is it?” Alyce could hear Darcy say on the other end.

“Do you think I could stay at your house for a while with a friend? I know it’s vague, but I promise I’ll explain when I get there.”

Alyce could hear Darcy hesitate. “Um, okay, I guess. You better have a good excuse though, bro.” She gave Blake the address to her new house. The conversation ended, and Blake and Alyce sat in silence.

“So how are you feeling?” Blake asked.

“Dizzy.” Alyce’s world was spinning slightly, but she was doing better than she thought she would.

“I’m sorry. I couldn’t handle being there with Cameron. We obviously don’t get along very well.”

“It’s fine. I think I might be getting used to all of the craziness. I’m learning to not expect anything.”

Blake laughed. “I know.” No more words were said. Blake was finally able to flag down a taxi, so they both hopped in and headed to Darcy’s house.

Alyce looked outside her window to see the trees, the sky…everything. It had been so long to finally be able to look outside the window of a car like a normal person does and just see the beauty of the world. She sometimes wished she could just live a normal life. Then it hit her. She could go back to her normal life. She could just tell the taxi to go to her address. But maybe Alyce wanted to live a different life. Maybe she wanted to live far, far away from her mom. I mean, it was always her dream to escape, right? The dream had finally found her. She couldn’t just run away from it. Besides, she felt like she could trust Blake enough. Of course, her sense of trust was being manipulated by the many strange events going on in her life. But something about Blake was just…different.

Alyce kept her mouth shut and went along for the ride. For some reason, it just felt like the right thing to do at the time.

The taxi came to an abrupt stop and Blake handed the driver a wad of cash. He grabbed Alyce’s hand once again. He thanked the driver and then stepped out, shutting the door. Alyce looked up to see a huge, white, 2 story house. It was gorgeous. The lawn was decorated with perfectly trimmed hedges and enormous trees. “Wow”, Blake whispered. Alyce nodded in agreement.

They walked up to the house, and Blake rang the doorbell. A second after, the door was jerked open to see a girl with long, curly blonde hair with a pastel purple streak. She was wearing neon pink skinny jeans and a black and white top. The girl also had a nose ring, which seemed to tie the outfit together. “Blake!” she screamed, hugging him tightly. “I haven’t seen you in forever!” She let go and just as soon as she did, she said, “Now you have to tell me what you’ve been up to.” Alyce could tell this girl was loaded with energy. When they walked into the house, it smelled like coffee. That explained it.

Alyce took a seat next to Blake on the couch, and Darcy sat down in a recliner. “So, tell me. Whatcha been up to?”

“Well”, Blake said, looking over at Alyce and back to Darcy. “You won’t believe me if I tell you.”
