Final chapter:

*Wendy

Things between Max and I had eased, as if we had totally forgotten about the kiss. I was okay, but, I still wanted him, even though he was dying. I couldn’t be with someone who I loved so much and was, unfortunately, dying, no matter how much I wanted him. Which, was a bit silly considering I still had feelings for Max; even though we weren’t together, my feelings for him were still just as strong as the night he kissed me.

     Life was so hard.

Max and I was at the park, well, an abandoned park; it was the same one we used to play on in first grade. We were playing on the swings, he was pushing me while I had all the fun, which, was how it always used to be.

“Higher?” He asked while laughing. I told him yes, and when I swung back to him, he gave me a big push. Cool wind would hit my face rapidly; I was getting some big air; that was until the chain broke. I plummeted to the ground and oddly, I began laughing.

“Wendy! Are you okay?!” Max shouted as he rushed toward me.

“I’m fine,” I laughed, continuing to lie where I had fallen. He sat down and then lied beside me on his side. He propped his head up with his hand and looked down at me.

“Should have known these things were weak,” He said with a bit of concern.

“At least it was funny,” I replied, still laughing.

“Says the one who got her butt busted,” He joked, only causing me to laugh at myself more.

Then, he scooted closer, sliding his arm beneath my head which I assumed was meant to be used as a pillow for my comfort, and used his other arm to hold me with by wrapping it around me. “Can I tell you a story?” He asked as his eyes roamed upon my face. I returned a nod in agreement.

“There was this young kid; six years old, just your average boy. He never knew his real father; he, unfortunately, died just a little after his mother told him she was pregnant in a bad car accident. Then the kid met this girl, about the same age as him; beautiful of course. She was the light of his world because he was…different to all the other kids for some reason, he never had one friend but her. Well, Mommy thought she could find love again, so she got married all of a sudden. He was forced to…to break off the friendship he had with his one and only friend. He wasn’t angry at his mother because he knew she was very lonely since she missed her first so much husband. Mommy didn’t know that her new husband was a psychopathic man wanted for murder and kidnapping. He and his mother were turned into victims for four years. But you know, his best friend was still the light of his world; he still felt her, he still played with her…he just couldn’t see her; what gave him hope was…he knew she still existed somewhere in the world. When his mother’s husband wasn’t beating or cutting on them, his mother was teaching him to pray. The child prayed every night and day for God to rescue him and his mother, and God did…but what made the boy forget about God was the fact that He didn’t deliver his mother, so, the boy was the only one to survive. Then about, oh I don’t know, two decades later he was all alone; dying of cancer. He didn’t see any reason in going on with his life…that was until he met this incredible, beautiful woman. She didn’t see much in herself, in fact, she saw herself as this one big flaw. But he strived on teaching her what love was and what it felt like, because, she taught him what true love was first…Jesus Christ, and this Jesus saved his life.”

He licked his lips and I saw tears flooding up his eyes. “He fell in love with her and she fell for him too, even though the two knew it was wrong. He didn’t know how to tell her, he didn’t know what to do, and to make it worse she had someone else. Well, she and her boyfriend broke up. One night, he took her out to this ball, not as what you would call a romantic date, since; they were just friends at the time. And, to express his strong love for her, he kissed her and told her what an amazing woman she was. At the time, he didn’t quite know he loved her just yet and it took him a while to understand that he was…in full blow love. There was one, massive, problem though, he had cancer. Yes, they were dating after the kiss they shared, sort of you might say; but, the girl was very protective with her heart and—’’
