Aphmau opened her eyes and looked around the lightly lit room, everything the way she had left it. Sighting she got out of bed and waddled over to the bathroom at the other side of the hallway, before leaving the bathroom she checked in the mirror, only to see the key hanging from the chain on her tanned neck. She didnt remember putting it on. Brushing the issue aside for later she walked down to the kitchen. Aphmau was greeted by her mother.
good morning sweetie, what a beautiful necklace, did you find it?
the older asked placing a plate of powder sugar covered pancakes in front of her daughter. Aphmau nods taking a bite out of her pancakes.
well dont get too attached to it, were going to have to leave it here when we go back home
Her mother told her wiping the table clean.
oh, and aph darling would you take a box to the attic for me when your done eating
sure mom
she answers finishing off her first pancake. After finishing all four pancakes she walks to a box labelled *attic* and hoists it up, using her knee for balance to steady it in her arms. When she reaches the hallway, she realises she has no idea where to go. looking around she notices a door with a plate nailed into it spelling out *attic*and walks toward it. Opening the door, she sees a spiral staircase leading upward. {great} she thought starting her awkward climb up the narrow staircase. Upon entering the attic, she noticed how dark and dusty it was, coughing a few times as she breathed in the dust particles. Walking over to an empty space on a shelf, she put down the box and was about to leave when something caught her eye. A large black box sat in the corner of the room, barely noticeable due to the various items it sat behind, curious, she walked over to it. She plucked the box from its hiding place, being careful not to brake its contents, and placed it on the ground in front of her. The box was a shiny black with a peacock on the front, weaving its way in and out of white roses. She tried to open the box but found it would not budge. On closer inspection she saw a lock, it was surrounded in sapphires of all different sizes and shades. Then it clicked in her head {the key!} sliding the key from around her neck she slipped it into the keyhole, twisting it until she heard a click. Slipping off the lid she gasped, inside lay a doll, pale porcelain skin dotted with clusters of freckles along the cheeks and nose, fluffy jet-black hair swept to one side, ice blue eyes rimmed with long thick eyelashes, full lips dusted light pink, slender body clad in blacks and dark greys. She sat there in awe staring at the sight before her, the doll was beautiful, he almost looked real. Being as gentle as possible she lifted him out of the box, he was a big doll standing just above her knee caps, but he was light and easy to hold. A tag hung from his wrist saying one word * Zane * {so thats his name} she thought to herself as she lifted a few different outfits for Zane out of the box. She heard her mother call for her from somewhere down stairs and walked down to her, Zane still in hand. She found her mother in
the lounge, sat opposite her was a fine woman, late thirties, early forties.
blonde hair pulled up into a neat bun atop her head. Her warm brown eyes twinkled, and her lipstick coated lips were tugged into a sweet smile when she saw what aphmau was holding.
you found Zane! she beamed clasping her hands together.
I remember the day I bought him, he cost quite a bit of penny you know. Bought him for my daughter for her birthday, she wanted nothing to do with him simply because his hair is black, such a silly reason to reject him in my opinion. I know, why dont you keep him.
Aphmau looked at the woman shocked
are you sure your daughter wont mind? I mean he is her doll
oh, heavens no, she wont even realize hes gone, besides he been in that attic for almost twenty years, Id hate it if he were alone any longer.
She told her a hind of sadness in her voice.
okay thank you miss
oh yes where are my manners Im Raquel levene
Aphmaus mother cuts in.

She ushers. Aphmau leaves the room and looks down at the fragile boy in her arms, only to see him tilt his head and blink, looking straight at her. Anyone else would have screamed but not her, she giggled.
maybe these two years wont be so bad after all
