You Can't

Alaska's P.O.V

I picked at my nails as i thought about the day at the park with Alan. I couldn't seem to get it out of my head. Maybe 'cause no one else knows but me?. Maybe I should tell Carly?. I can trust Carly with anything so maybe telling her would make the thoughts stop. I feel so clustered with all these thoughts.

"Hey, Carly do you wanna go out for lunch?." I yelled from the couch. Carly swung her bedroom open and grinned at me.

"Yes, actually I would love too!." she yelled back. I giggled and went to my room. I hopped into the shower and did my business.

I dressed in a gray dress that went mid thigh. I pulled on my black thigh highs and put my Dr.Martens on. I brushed out my hair and applied a little bit of eyeliner.

By time I was finished getting ready it was one o'clock. I ran down the stairs and saw Carly enchanted in her phone. I rolled my eyes and pulled my leather jacket on that hung on the hook. She's probably talking to Tino like always.

"Ready?." I asked and Carly nodded grabbing her keys from the counter.

Carly parked her car in the parking lot of Buffalo Wild Wings and we walked inside. It wasn't long a time before someone greeted us.

"Hi, welcome to Buffalo Wild Wings, where would you like to sit today?." A girl around my age asked.

"Outside would be nice," Carly responded and the lady nodded and directed us to our seats. Once Carly and I sat down we looked over the menu.

"So what's been on your mind lately?." Carly asked not making eye contact with me. I froze up a little, maybe she already knew, but how could she find out?. No one could know unless Alan said anything, but I would doubt that.

"Nothing, what do you mean?." I rushed my words out making it way to obvious. Carly set her menu down and narrowed her eyes at me.

"Tell me about him." Carly said right as the waiter came up to us. I haven't told Carly that me and Austin are together yet but I would have told Carly sooner but, I guess now is better than ever.

"Hi, my name is Donnie, I'll be your waiter today. Can I start you guys off with something to drink?." He asked. Donnie had tan skin and dirty blond hair.

"I'll have a water," Carly never drinks pop usually cause of the calories. He jotted it down and turned to me.

"I'll have a sprite," I said and smiled. He walked off and disappeared inside. Carly turned her attention back to me and smiled craving the details. I swallowed the lump in my throat and leaned back in the metal chair.

"Um- Well he has a nose ring, tattoos, he's in a band and he likes me." I said and shrugged a little. Carly smiled brightly flashing her perfectly straight teeth.

"Wait. Do I know this someone?." She asked. I think she knew who I was talking about, Austin.

"Yeah, Austin and I ar-" I was cut off by our waiter setting our drinks down on the table.

"Are you lady's ready to order?." Donnie our waiter asked.

"Yes, I'll have the Caesar salad." Carly politely ordered. He turned to me and smiled.

"I'll have mild wings." I said and he jotted it down and walked off. Carly took a drink of her water and sighed.

"Sorry, what were you saying?. You and Austin are what?." She questioned . I looked down at my hands in my lap and fiddled with my fingers.

"Uh- We're dating actually." I mumbled. Carly's eyes looked as if they were ready to pop out of her head.

"Oh my god!. Alaska you should have told me this is such good news!. I knew you guys would end up together!." She squealed and clapped her hands. I chuckled and ran my hand through my hair. When I met Carly's gaze she frowned. "What is it Alask?." Carly asked care laced in her voice.

"I- um- Something happened the other day." I didn't know how to put what I wanted to say in a sentence. I don't know how to say I almost kissed Alan when I spent the day with him at the park. Or maybe I just don't want to believe it or admit it. I should never agreed to go with him. Maybe I shouldn't tell Carly and just forget it ever happened. It isn't to late, I could just make up something like I'm not sure he likes me.

Carly set her hand on mine pulling me from my thoughts. My head popped up and I shot her a smile. "Alaska, you can tell me. Out of all people who am I to judge?. Spill it sweets." Carly reassured. I sighed and cover my face with my hand.

"I spent the day with Alan at the park and we got ice cream and everything was going okay. T-Then we almost kissed." I spilled out. It felt like a hundred pounds have been lifted off my chest. Carly leaned back and took a deep breath staring at me. She didn't look ashamed or disgusted. More surprised or confused.

"Do you like him...?." Carly trailed, my eyes widen. But then I realized maybe I do. I opened my mouth to say something but sighed.

"I don't know." I groaned, and looked down at my shoes. Carly sighed and tapped her finger nails against the table.

"You can't like him, Alaska. You're with Austin." She said and gave me a small smile. I nodded and bit the inside of my cheek. She's right, I have to push these stupid feelings aside even if I do like Alan.
