Christmas Eve
"Danielle, wipe the windows down." Ebony bossed around her seventeen year old co-worker.
"But I already did." She sighed.
"How? It's smudges everywhere. You know La'Shonda don't like when it look a mess in here, so clean the windows." She handed her some Windex and a towel.
"And if I have to do it after you, you can just clock out and leave." Ebony said with a clipboard in hand.
"You can't tell her to clock out." Another teenage worker said.
"Who can't? You can clock out too, love. Since you know so much. La'Shonda said I'm in charge when she not here." Ebony rolled her neck, turning up the music that was playing.
Ebony bobbed her head to Trippie Redd's, Wish. She took count of all the accessories in stock and marked them off on the clipboard. Ebony then went into the inventory room and took a seat at La'Shonda's desk to place an order on the computer. She was really enjoying her role as the inventory manager and the responsibilities at hand.
Since the beauty supply was temporarily shut down, Ebony was able to take more hours at the boutique. La'Shonda was grateful because Ebony learned fast and was beneficial to the company. La'Shonda no longer had to come to the store everyday because Ebony was the one closing up shop, making sure everything was in stock, and she was good at bossing everyone around.
Ebony even enjoyed her first photo shoot that took place a week ago. She was such a natural in front of the camera that the photographer exchanged numbers with her so they could do some work together. Ebony accepted the offer because playing dress up and getting pretty was something she was already used to.
After completing the order, Ebony shut the computer off and went back to the front of the store. It was five minutes till closing so she became irritated when she saw a male walk into the store. It was only Mike so her frown went away when she saw him cheesing at her. Ebony ignored his presence and focused her attention on the two annoying girls who were supposed to be cleaning.
"Hi, Ebony." He walked over to her, holding what looked like white, thick paperboard.
"Hey. What's that?" She pointed.
"La'Shonda told me to hang these five pictures up around the store. Wanna look at 'em?" He flipped over the 24x30 pictures.
"I guess. I'm tryna get outta here though." She said as he plopped the heavy pictures on the counter.
"Aight, well just look at this one then."
"Wait." Ebony's heart started beating fast.
"It's dope, huh?" He nodded with a smile.
"This me? She putting my picture up? This big ass picture." She covered her mouth while her coworkers took a look too.
