"Nobody still ain't heard from her?" Hakeem asked over the phone.

"No. Like I said, two days ago is when she came over Megan house and they talked. She gave Megan a phone number and Megan called yesterday, but nobody answered. I went to her mama house this morning to get some of Kayla stuff and her mama said nobody seen her since two nights ago." Ebony typed on her work computer with the phone on speaker.

"What the fuck, son. Did they file a report?"

"Her mama said she was doing it today."

"You think she... never mind. I just got this bad feeling and even though Crystal get on my nerves, I don't want Kayla to not have her mama cause that shit a different type of pain. A pain that I know all about."

Ebony was trying to focus on her work as Hakeem continued to talk. She emailed potential workers for the new store to set up interview times. After her work was done at the mall, she needed to stop by the new site to make sure the electric workers were getting the job done in a timely manner. Hakeem was kind of slowing her down, but she didn't want to tell him.

"I know I probably slapped on the girl and pushed on her, even said I wanted to beat the shit outta her, but I never did. Not like how you described."

"No nigga should be putting they hands on they bitch, period! Yeah, Crystal be starting with niggas and I know that cause I've witnessed it, but she was fucked up that day and it was scary to see her like that. I don't even like the bitch, but I do have a heart. She don't have a mind, she think that mean y'all niggas love her." Ebony said with an obvious attitude.

"You referring to me? Don't be wishy washy with who you think deserve to get hit on. Cause you used to be the main one wanting me to fight hoes with you. It was funny then."

"Okay! I was a stupid teenager, don't get smart with me cause I'll hang up on yo ass."

"Girl, fuck you. You got smart first. Don't try to make it seem like I go around just putting my hands on bitches cause it was never like that. If I ever put my hands on that girl it was because she did it first. I never even told her I loved her, so I don't know where you getting that idea."

"I didn't say shit about you putting hands on nobody, that's you talking like that. All I said was, wrong is wrong. You stay tryna argue a nigga down, man." Ebony paused from working.

"Nobody tryna argue. My whole baby mama missing and I feel bad about that because I have a daughter with her. For all I know, Kayla could only have one living parent. You know how shit go when bitches end up missing. If I was out dude wouldn't even try that. No nigga wanna see my hands or me on no dumb shit, ya' heard me. If my baby mama dead..."

"Aight, Keem. You know this shit tapped."

"What I say wrong? He don't wan' fight me."

"I just don't want you slipping up saying nothing stupid, that's all. Beating up niggas is the reason you there now." Ebony's coworker walked into the office.

"And you got a month left so when you get out don't go being dumb, regardless of how this situation with Crystal turn out. If Kay lose her, don't put yourself in a situation to where she'll lose you too." Ebony added, holding her finger up to her coworker.

"I know, I wouldn't want that for her. Plus I gotta be there for my son and Megan. Man, my ole lady so solid for holding shit down. If I ever fuck up again I give you permission to beat my ass."

"You ain't gotta give me permission cause I'm a do it anyway. Megan too good of a woman."

"She is. That's why when I get home I'm a fuck ha' like a dawg. She ain't gotta touch a bill or nothing when I come home."
