Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock.

The clock is the only sound in the class. Everyone is getting ready for their final exams.

Just another day.

The teacher hands us our paper and we start working. Our last test and we past this year.

Just another day.

The pencils dancing across the paper, tension in the air as everyone tries their best.

Just another day, or so we all thought.

The once silenced filled school, now feels like a war zone. bang! baNG! BANG! BANG! The shots getting closer everyone freezes, staring at the door.

Just another day, in America.

"Quickly barricade the door with desks!" The teacher orders and we do as they say. We sit in the corner terrified and hugging each other for dear life, some even crying.

Just another day, in America.

"Help me, they're coming please HELP ME!" I hear a voice pounding on the door. Not just any voice, my best friends voice. BANG! The screaming and pounding is gone.

Just another fucking day at school.

The intruder breaks the glass to the room. Our teacher tries to fight. BANG! Blood seeps through the wound. BANG! BANG! BANG! The intruder shoots hitting me in the leg, a classmate in the eye and another in the chest.

Just another day, full of gun shots and crying.

We hear sirens and the intruder takes off running. We all hug each other, crying hysterically.

Just another day, where kids won't be saying "mom! I'm home!" Where parents won't be hugging and kissing their kids good night.

The day ends. Parents now have no hope, kids emotionally scarred.

Just another shooting on the news. Forgotten by the public.

Why can't we feel safe when we're at school? Why is our place we're supposed to be learning and growing suddenly a war zone? My daily list of things to bring to school used to be a pencil and paper, Now? A bullet proof vest and the fear I'm gonna die.
