The Dragon's Claw

Chapter 1

"Zaleena.... wake up.... come on '' Adelinda's sweet voice greeted my sleepy body.

''morning Adelinda '' I said in a raspy voice, waking up and getting to my feet. My gaze fixed on the scarlet scaled dragon who looked radiant.

For long as I can remember Andelina was the one to take care of me, but it was odd she was a mighty dragon with scarlet scales and pearl white teeth while I had black hair that reached just below my waist line and pearly white teeth but never mighty like her. I walked on two feet while she on four.I never understood why i was brought up by dragons.

With all my years with them I've learned many things and more to be learnt. One of my favourites were changing my eye colour and shape.  I could go from Andelina's eyes which were yellow to sapphire blue and any colour I wanted. It was cool I enjoyed doing it , there were more like spell casting and other things. I could work a few spell but not that strong.

I pulled one of the clothes Andelina and the others had made for me though she told me never to ask how they made them but by the shine on them I knew exactly how they did it. I pulled out a red top and white bottom and headed to the small or rather large puddle of water which was inside this cavern, another thing I wasn't allowed to ask. The water was heated and I jumped into it making a splash everywhere. '' come on Zaleena... your not a child anymore.... get in and get out... '' by the time Andelina got to her last words I was swimming from end to end of the puddle, that was how huge the puddle was. Andelina seeing that I wasn't paying attention to her fished me out with a enormous hand. ''do you ever listen '' she said blowing hot air onto me which got me dry. ''sorry Andelina... I feel like I'm crazy '' I said as she put me down near my clothes.

''your sixteen....and.... oh forget it let's go '' she said seeing me dressed and ready for my day in Ephora. I got onto her back and holding onto one of her scales as she headed out the entrance of our mountain cave and zoomed down to the lush green earth. As we were going against the current the wind was stinging my eyes and made my hair goes crazy. Finally on the ground I grabbed my hair and straightened it. Andelina turned away and looked for the others and took off.

Andelina and the others would always disappear in the morning andreturn a little while after the sun sets. During this time I had to either watch the smaller dragons or guard eggs, another thing I didn't know about Ephora, I had never seen other dragons other than the ones I live with and I have to guard eggs but there were days where I didn't need to do that and today was that day. I could wonder around the whole place and I would be alone.

I pulled out a scroll from my satchel and walked towards the creek. The creek itself had magical properties and beauty. Sapphire lilies grew with mystic beauty, a weeping willow that gave out energy to everything around it, a waterfall that fell like a flow of milk and a massive black rock which I had never seen before. Thinking this would be the perfect place to practice magic I placed my satchel near the black rock and took a few scrolls out to practice with the other I had in my hand and a diamond which Andelina had made into a necklace for me,  Andelina said that was the source of all dragons and yet I wasn't a dragon and I still forged my powers from it. I wore it and opened a scroll and started chanting in some language that I wasnt too familiar with. As I chanted a spell of fire I thought the black rock flinched but ignoring it I repeated the process. I never got to finish for the black rock did flinch and it rose to its full height. It was a dragon. Black as night with eyes that shone like rubies. I took a few steps back, the sight of it made my legs tremble and shiver.

''whoa... I won't hurt you....I promise''I said trying to calm the wonderful being , but it seemed rather shocked when I was speaking to it. 'didn't all the dragons here know that I could speak and understand them? ' I questioned myself. It raised it's head and sent hot steam out its nostrils. That wasn't a good sign, I backed away as fast as I could but the dragon knew that I was trying to flee and we ended up in a chase. Only when it started to move is when I realized the way its talons moved, like machines actually, and my conclusion it was a male. Why wouldn't it be it was strongly built. Tall .  Almost mature, and the way its talons moved. It was a wondrous sight except I was about to get killed.

Lunging at me the dragon sent me a few feet back, I pulled mt hands infront of me and closed my eyes excepting the death blow from it. I waited for awhile and realized that my heart was still beating and I was breathing, opening my eyes I saw a marvelous glow of red surround my hand. Fire.  I had finally gotten it working, I looked at the dragon through my fingers who was shocked again but not afraid. A quick movement that I had never expected sent waves of pain through my hand and when I opened my eyes to see that I was partially in his mouth, he had caught me by my hand, any harder and I won't have a hand.

''Andelina.....'' I practically screamed my head off.

Dragons were fast fliers but when flying at rest they were slow and I knew they were still around and I hoped she could hear me.

Like a thousand knights in shinning armour Andelina and the others came within a split second, the dragon who was startled loosened his grip which allowed me to blast a bit of fire onto his side, near his chest. In the result of pain his grip loosened completely and I fell on the tail of Iris. A purple dragon just the size of Andelina. As soon as I hit her tail she turned as blew a fog of purple and sent the black dragon flying. The rest was just a sheet of black paper that engulfed me; and I fell into a deep sleep.
