Leah’s POV
“Hi, I’m-“
“You’re Leah Fay, right?” He interrupted me
“Uh, Yeah, How did you know?” I asked, confused as to how this complete stranger knew my name.
“We don’t exactly get too many new students here” He said, smiling warmly.
“Right”
“Well we better get going, if you don’t want to be late”
“Alright” I said to the friendly boy
“Let me see your timetable” He instructed. He took one quick glance at it then looked up at me, a warm but somehow cold and dangerous looking smile spread across his face. “Cool!” You’re in most of my classes! We have Maths first” He turned and started walking out of the office, stopping at the glass doors, gesturing me to follow.
“So tell me about yourself” He looked up at me from under his eyelashes.
“Um, well, I just moved from Australia...” I started, not quite sure what he wanted to know.
“Really?” He asked, unsure.
“Yeah...Why would I lie?” I replied, almost instantly regretting my tone. After all, I wanted to make friends not enemies, and for some reason, I got the feeling that Blade wasn’t the kind of guy you wanted to be enemies with.
“Oh, well it’s just that...you sort of have a British accent... that’s all” he said awkwardly.
“Well, I used to live here, but my mum and I had to move to Australia for her work...”
“Oh cool! So she’s decided to move back then?” He asked, seeming overly interested in my boring story.
“Um...I guess could say that” I said, deciding to skip the story of my mother.
I had to fight to keep the tears back, which were now welling up in my eyes.
He looked at me with a puzzled expression. “Well...we’re here” He gestured towards an old brick building, the door was painted a bright yellow, which was now half peeled off. No doubt an attempt to brighten the old, ugly classroom. Blade reached for the door handle then pulled it open, revealing a classroom full of staring teenagers, plus a grumpy, wrinkled man who appeared to be my new Maths teacher.
“Take a seat Blade and friend” He instructed firmly. Barely glancing up from the thick novel placed on his fading, vandalised desk. I mentally gave a sigh of relief that he didn’t make me introduce myself, I wasn’t in the mood, or any state to stand up in front of a room of strangers and talk about myself.
I looked around the room, searching for an empty seat. I noticed Blade heading towards two empty seats at the back of the classroom, I quickly followed, trying to ignore the stares that felt as if they were burrowing into my skull.
Blade took the seat right in the corner of the room, and I gladly took the seat beside him, taking out my book from my bag and placing it on the ‘Used-to-be-cream” desk.
My attention was drawn to a scratched drawing on blade’s desk, just under his arm. I could just make out a ‘de’ and it wasn’t until he moved his arm that I realised the drawing was in fact blade’s name scratched into the table in large graffiti style letters, underneath his name was a small drawing of a knife...
...Could it just be a clever pun? After all, his name is Blade. I decided to ignore the drawing and the strange feeling that was beginning to form in my stomach.
I was thankful when the teacher started the lesson. I directed my full attention to the wrinkled man.
I was good at maths, it really was the one thing I could do at school, however no matter how hard I tried to focus, I still found my mind starting to wonder like usual. I could never concentrate these days.
I gazed down at my blank page as everyone else in the class worked. I brought my pen to the clean, lined paper and began doodling, starting with just scribbles. After a few minutes of mindless doodling, I glanced down at my page, realising that I had written ‘Harry’ over and over, almost filling the entire ‘used to be clean’ page.
My thoughts and daydreaming were interrupted by a loud buzzing. Startled, I looked up from my page, at the now half empty classroom. Realising it was the bell, I began collecting my things and stood up.
“Come hang with me and my friends?” Blade asked, smiling.
“Uh...Okay” I stuttered. For some reason I felt oddly afraid of Blade, but at the same time I felt strangely safe. He was like an eclipse, you shouldn’t stare at it, but it’s so hard to look away. And that scared me.
Blade smiled again at my answer and then began leading me out of the classroom.
I heard quiet whispers and giggles behind me. “Um...Excuse me?” a faint voice asked me. I turned to face a petite brunette girl, who I assumed was at least two years younger than me. She was surrounded by a group of other girls, all staring at me with wide eyes.
“yes?” I asked, confused as to what these girls could possibly want.
“Sorry...but are you...are you Leah Fay?” the petite girl stuttered.
Great. The last thing I needed right now was the whole school knowing that I was ‘dating’ Harry styles. I REALLY didn’t think this through.
Then it hit me...
He kissed me...He kissed me, do you kiss someone you’re fake dating, when nobody is even watching?
I was brought back to reality when I realised the girls were still in front of me, wide eyed as ever.
“Yeah...I am” I half smiled.
“Oh-my-gosh!” one of the girls squealed, I winced at the sound. “Could we please have a photo with you?!”
I noticed Blade’s confused stare, then turned back to the girls. “Um...I guess so...” I answered, confused as to why they would want a photo with me? I’m not famous! ...Am I?
The girl’s faces lit up as one took out a phone from her bag, passing it to Blade. “could you please take it?” She stared up at Blade with pleading eyes.
“Uh, sure” He said, taking the phone from her hands.
I squeezed into the photo and tried to pull off a smile, listening carefully for the ‘click’ of the camera.
‘Click’ I moved back next to Blade and gave the girls one last smile before I turned and continued walking.
Blade didn’t speak again almost the whole way. I concentrated on the walk to where hangs out at break time, paying attention to every tree and every path we passed, making sure I would be able to find my own way next time.
He stopped walking when we arrived at a long, wooden bench-like seat, surrounded by trees at the back of the school.
He turned to look me in the eyes. His icy blue eyes scrutinising my face. “So Leah Fay, who are you”?
