Chapter - 8

Next day at University

"I mean what are the odds?" Namjoon said in a low voice midst his laughter which he was trying to control but was failing at. The professor was already giving him the glare.

And there I was, standing in my class, shocked at my luck. YET AGAIN???

20 minutes before

Namjoon and I headed for our next class after having a mini coffee break. This was our second day at University and it has been a normal ride till now ignoring the initial encounter with the un-named guy. Well, I know it's been just two days but the second day was almost over with only one last class left.

We were inside the classroom, looking for seats when Namjoon nudged me and pointed at the right end corner where one bench was empty. He pulled me quickly towards the bench so that no one else could sit there before us. He sat beside the window while I sat on the aisle side.

"Aren't we lucky enough to get the last bench? Now I can take a sweet nap while the professor continues his boring lecture."

And with that, he kept a book on the table as a pillow, rested his head and shut his eyes close.

"Save me just in case, will you?"

"Yeah, whatever." I replied. The lecture was undoubtedly boring, I mean studying Economics at 4 in the afternoon isn't something I look forward to. But I wasn't in the mood to take a nap. So I had no option but to wait for the professor to come and be done with this lecture as soon as possible.

The professor came, with a happy and a chirpy face. He looked extra happy for a Professor's face.

"Good afternoon Students!" The students straightened up ready for the act of listening intently while actually sleeping.

"Before I start with today's lecture, I am giving you this Semester's assignment." And all the faces were shocked, jaw dropped. Namjoon was up instantly. Who gives an assignment on the second day? The course had barely started. Our first lecture was just him briefing us about the syllabus we would cover in this semester followed by the introduction of the first chapter we will start. He dismissed the class early too. And we felt this professor would be the cool type.

"Oh my god! Look at all these shocked faces. I love surprising my students." He had a huge grin on his face showing that he indeed loved surprising his students.

"This will be a long assignment. It will probably take more than half of your semester. And not to forget, it will be marked for your internal assessment. You guys will work in pairs. Now I'll start naming the pairs I have made randomly. No changes will be made in the pairs." He said the instructions in an automated tone as if it was a normal drill for him and he had learned the instructions by heart. The whole class sighed.

He took out a sheet out of his folder which had the names of the pairs.

He started to read the names of the pairs one by one. I won't be lying if my heartbeat wasn't normal. I felt sick in the stomach. And by looking at the expressions of other students, I knew I wasn't alone. Teaming with a completely new person for an important assignment is no joke. Our mind automatically starts to think about worst case scenarios.

What if my partner is someone who won't even work for the assignment and I would end up doing my assignment alone?

What if my partner is a creepy guy or a girl?

What if it is someone who talks a lot?

What if it is someone who doesn't talk at all?

My thoughts were snapped when Namjoon's name was announced along with a name by which I guessed his partner is a girl. I looked at the student who stood up from her seat which was somewhere in the middle of the class. The girl turned back to look at Namjoon. She seemed cute. She was short and wore glasses of size bigger than her face. Same was the case with her hoodie which was loosely hanging around her body.

I glanced at Namjoon's face and he had a smile he was trying to hide. I cleared my throat, trying to get his intention. He sat back and registering her face in his mind. He was still smiling.

"You know that you both are paired for the assignment and not a blind date. I mean look at your face, you're all red" I chuckled. "What is her name by the way?"

"Kang SunHi" He said, still looking at her.

"Ohh Kim Namjoon" I snapped my fingers in front his face to bring his eyes back to me.

"Don't get me all wrong. But she is cute." He had his cute smile on his face where his dimples made the appearance. I couldn't control myself and pinched his cheeks. He whined for me to pull away when suddenly I heard my name being announced. I got attentive again and waited for the professor to announce the name again, just in case I heard wrong.

"Song BoRa - Kim TaeHyung" He announced again, looking up from his spectacles which rested on his nose.

I stood up from my seat, looking around the classroom for my partner. A boy at the far end of the class stood up, already looking at me, rather staring with an expressionless face.

"Oh, Shit! Why him?" I cursed under my breath. Namjoon noticed the guy and burst out a loud laughter, gaining attention from everyone. He shut immediately when the Professor glared at him.

"I mean what are the odds?" Namjoon said in a low voice midst his laughter which he was trying to control but was failing at.

And there I was, standing in my class, shocked at my luck. YET AGAIN???

"At least you know his name now. You can curse him by calling his name." Namjoon was totally enjoying this. After all, what he wished had actually happened.

"What was his name again?" I missed catching his name when I was all busy being shocked.

"Kim Taehyung." I looked at the direction he was sitting. I turned my face forward again when I found him already looking at me.

"It is embarrassing. I am failing this assignment totally. How will I work with him? We can't stand each other for more than 5 seconds, how..."

"Bora-ah! Take a deep breath." I did as he told me. After waiting for me to calm down, he held my hands and made me look towards him so that he has all my attention.

"Just talk to him after class. I know your previous encounters haven't been good. But you can at least give this a try?"

I didn't reply. I didn't know what to reply. Do I have any other option?
