I was is deep shock when I heard her and who ever was out there's parents were going to be kidnapped.
"You can't tell anyone sir" she said with big eyes staring at me as if she was terrified of her own shadow. I looked at her now focused on what I could do. I listed out all the probabilities in my mind.
I could tell the police, but Lily said I cannot tell anyone or else something terrible would happen to her and the rest of the children.
I could go into the forest and see if i was real or not, but then if it isn't real then I have to figure out why she ranaway and why she would lie.
I could bring her to her mother, and not tell anyone about kidnapping. But what about the other children being forced upon labor? Would they just rot there? And die?
All my thoughts had a negative ending holding them back from the help we needed to know how to help.
I kept thinking for awhile, until then I realized I had been staring at the ground for the past fifteen or so minutes, I left the tired little girl sitting on the stairs of my front porch.
She was staing blankly into the forest proablly scared they were going to kill her, then I stared down at her trying to think about what she might be thinking about. I finally sat down next to her and started staring at the woods with her.
I tilted my head towards her direction and I look over slightly and she that she is still staring at the woods, but not blankly anymore, she was thinking hard. She had a sturn expression on her young face. To young of a face that should have to worry.
I was sitting down beside her and her white dress that was by now a light gray color from the work that was strained upon her from 'The People'. I felt bad for her like any other person, but I was wondering, about the other kids and what they might be doing now. Were they working, were they asleep, were some children possibly...dead.
Some maybe dead from the hard work, some may have refused to work and was killed purposely by the people. Did some starve to death, did some get so hungry that they ate the other workers. I was shaking at the thought of little ten, eleven, twelve year old kids possibly dead b/c of this horrible thing that was formed for no reason that I knew of.
Lily was still staring at the woods, I asked her with a shakey voice, "Do you----" Then suddenly there was a nosie comming from the woods. I stared with eyes as open as if someone was pulling my eyelids up.
I suddenly heard in a scared voice "They're comming!" it was Lily and now she was screaming "they heard me leave! They know I'm here!" tears were falling down her face, and I thought a ten year old shouldn't be put through this. I whispered to her, " Go inside." she looked at me as if I was crazy and said,"There's no use they'll break the house open."
I told to go inside anyways. She was inside and I went to the nearest hiding place I could find and it was behind a large oak tree beside the house. I saw her staring out the window only showing her eyes, then suddenly, she ducked down quick. I looked over towards the woods, and they were there.
I stared in awe of what they might be. They looked like humans, but I knew, they weren't..
