Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell
I personally enjoy Ranibow's works and have read a few of them.
So the sum this book up in one word: emotional.
Like no joke I read this all in one night finished at 6am. And I was laughing and crying the whole way.
I am someone who hates books ending as I become emotionally invested in the characters which is bad.
The book is about Eleanore who is a new girl in town after her mum left her for a year with her neighbours due to her abusive step father kicking her out. Anyway she gets on the bus and learns that everyone has there own seats. Park an Asian boy sees her awkwardness and feels bad for her so tells her to sit down. They don't speak until Park notices that she is reading her comics over his shoulder. So he gives her comics and mix tapes. Eventually they get together and Eleanore tries desperately to keep her relationship a secret form her family as her stepdad would literally kill her. Park introduces her to his whole family who love her and she fits right in (kind of). Eventually Her stepdad finds out and he is going to kill her so she does the only thing she can think of and move away she moves to her uncles house in another state completely where her and park lose touch. We learn that a year has passed with Eleanore ignoring Parks letters. It ends with park receiving a postcard.
Now the ending left me satisfied for the most part. (I am never satisfied with book endings cause I want to know more.) As park throughout the book says he loves her and she never says it back. The postcard says three words. Now I believe it is either 'I love you' or 'I miss you' as they say that a lot too.
Now I love this book as it deals with topics that aren't really talked about in books for young adults or teens. The abusive, bulling, feelings about sex, family differences, money problems and many problems.
I honestly feel in love with this book. It's so beautifully written as we get both points of view from both Eleanore and Park and I believe this makes the book so much more real. As we can see someone going through a problem and what they are feeling but the other person who is watching and can't help.
I would recommend this book to older teens and to be read with caution.
This book is true my amazing and such a gripping read I think I felt every emotion possible.
The characters are so well written and even side characters like Eleanor's friends have back stories and we see them for about 2 pages total. It is truly wonderful how you can access and feel empathy for every character in this book.
