It was a cold night in December. Christmas was just a few days away.
There was a festive atmosphere in all of England, yet in the suburb of Ealing, there was silence. A silence that was unpredicted, unexpected yet feared by even the great...The Manor family were all gathered up for Christmas. Mrs Alice Manor though bedridden was giving orders to a young ,slim black haired lady by the name of Cecilia. She was Alice's helper, companion, nurse and all other things an invalid yet sharp woman required to lead an interesting life. Cecilia herself was quite a smart woman. She looked for to earning money so she could attend university and then become a doctor.
She did everything for Alice.. which also included feeding her.Alex, the elder son of the 2 young Manor boys was 22 and was helping to decorate the 'Great Hall' as it was nick named by the Manors. This was where all balls, parties and so on was held. Harry, the younger of the 2 was 20 and was decorating the various Christmas trees placed strategically across the hall. There was a contented atmosphere throughout the household.
Yet Alice's husband , Elliot Manor was worried. He was upset, not noticeably though. The 60 year old man was pacing about the hall muttering vehemently to himself. Suddenly he crossed the hall swiftly, picked up the telephone and ran up Mr Burke, his lawyer. When he picked up, Elliot said
" Mr Burke, could we set up a meeting tomorrow? I need to discuss a few matters with you urgently...........10 AM?? ........Yes, 10AM would suit me very well Mr Burke. Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your time. Please wish the missus a very happy Christmas from the Manor family."Later at night after dinner, he returned to his room as usual. As the custom went, Henry the butler took the medicines and tea up. As usual that day, he went up. He served his master and lit the fire. There was never a change in this routine. So much so...that it could even be called a ritual.
But that day, Elliot said something that broke the 'ritual'.
"Henry" he said, " I don't wish to be troubled until 9AM tomorrow. Please inform the other would you?"Oddly enough...Henry was the last person to see Elliot alive.
