"Good morning Dan....Glad to have you here" said George.
The moment Daniel walked into the house, he had felt it. That sense of mourning and fear that he had grown accustomed to over the years. It was there...and it was haunting the house. He wondered what he could do to help the family. Soon George Safarov came running to him.
" Dan. Wonderful to see you."" Is that a tinge of sarcasm i hear, George? "
" Oh no Dan. Absolutely not." He said with a smile.
" Well...if you could lead me to the scene George..then we could get on with the case?"
"Yes Dan" replied George dryly.
It was well known to George that when Dan is appointed to a case. The crime scene must be left untouched and that is precisely what he did.
Dan entered the room. He looked around and slipped on a pair of gloves. He walked up to the body and knelt down taking in the gruesome scene in front of him. It was a brutal murder no doubt.
"George, walk me through the happenings" said Dan"Around 1AM the house was roused by a shout and few minutes later they found him dead. No signs of forced entry or exit. And The connecting door leads to Alice's room. It was locked from the inside."
"Who found him?"
"Well. Henry was the first on scene. " Replied George.
Dan walked around the room. He went to the bureau and began ruffling about for any papers or so. He noticed a vase out of it's place and gently adjusted it back into its position.
He was a man of method and he utterly disliked things which were not in their place.
"That's all for now George. How soon can I interview the family?""Right about now Dan. Their all waiting for you in the parlor"
They both left the crime scene.
--------------------------------
Daniel and George entered the parlor. The family and staff all were gathered there.
"Good morning ladies and gentlemen. I'm Daniel Dublin and I'm a special investigator. In the light of the recent events I request each and every one of you to cooperate with the proceedings of this investigation. Also you are requested not to move out of the grounds of the manor in the next few days. Now, Inspector George and I are going to begin taking your statements. Henry?"
"Yes Mr Dublin?" He replied
"We shall start with you. The rest of you are requested to move out."
----------------------
"Okay Henry. Can you tell us what happened?" Asked inspector George
"No sir. I ain't knowing nothing about these murders. All i do know is yesterday Mr Elliot sir did something extraordinary." said Henry.
"Extraordinary? What do you mean by that?" asked George.
"Well sir. He asked me not to disturb him until 10. Mr Elliot sir was a man who never broke habit sir. Not once in all the 20 years i was serving the family sir."
"Is that so?" asked Dan
"Yessir. Also sir. I didn't mean to eavsdrop, but late night yesterday Mr Elliot sir called up the Lawyer. Said he wanted to change his will. I didn't mean to sir. It was only a mistake. The doorbell rang and Gypsy here never barked once. Usually she barks the place down. When I went to answer, there was no one there. It was the strangest thing ever."
"That's really helpful Henry. Do you know anything else? Were these mysterious doorbell ringings something that happened often" Asked Dan.
"Yes sir. The travellers around here often come to drink out the well so they just ring the bell to let us know. Usually Gypsy barks down the place so that alerts us enough. But yesterday she was too tired I think."
"Henry, You were the first on scene. Did you notice anything out of ordinary?"
"Actually sir, Alex was the first one outside the door, Not me."
"But Alex-" started George
"Alex lied." continued Dan. "This sure is strange. You can go Henry. Thank you"
