As the alarm went off, 19 year old Emma Mendez turned in her bed, she sat up and turned it off. She got up to go wash her face and brush her teeth. As she walked to the bathroom she stopped at the mirror near her door to admire her freshly woken up appearance. She had freckles on her cheeks. Her plump lips were a soft shade of pink and her big, round eyes were dark brown. She was quite short for her age. 5 feet to be exact.
She walked to the kitchen and boiled some water. She sat at the window and stared at the view of downtown Dallas. She was living with her best friend Jennifer who was away at college in New York. She was one year younger than Emma, they have been best friends since before middle school, practically doing everything together. Everything except college. Emma hated it, she would constantly get anxiety attacks and stress too much to the point where she got depressed, thus making her drop out of college after only attending for three months.

She poured the hot water in her favorite mug and grabbed a tea packet from a jar. She ripped the packet and put the bag in the mug filled with water. She carefully sipped it as she checked her phone. She had gotten a message from her father that read:

"Hey Em, hope you're doing fine.
We miss you and hopefully we can see
you soon. We love you!"

Emma replied:
"I miss you guys too! Hopefully
soon. Bye and i love you too!"

Emma's family had moved to Pennsylvania and haven't seen her for almost eight months. Emma missed them very much and sometimes felt lonely with them being gone and Jennifer being at college most of the time.

She finished her tea and put the mug in the sink with the other dirty dishes from last night's dinner. Emma wasn't much of a cook. The most she could make was frozen pizza and ramen noodles.

Normally she would stay at home on her laptop or watch movies and take long nap but today felt like a different day. For the first time in maybe six weeks she put some effort in her appearance. She wore black tight skinny jeans and an old indie band tank top. She didn't work with her wavy hair too much so she only straightened it an let it fall back. She applied a grayish shade of eyeshadow and a coat of mascara.
She slipped on an old pair of converse and stuffed her phone and keys into a small shoulder bag with some money.
She walked out, locking the door behind her.

Emma didn't know what to do or where to go. She didn't have many friends besides Jennifer.

She decided to walk around until she thought of something to do. She had a car but she didn't like to waste gas because it was too expensive.
