CH:9 Dinner Is Served

I sat out in my car and looked at the expensive cars lined up outside of my parents massive beautiful home. There was my fathers Cadillac ATS, Eden's Audi A3, Tazeem's Infinity G37, Evelyn's Mercedes and whatever type of BMW that was that Cam drove. There was another car the driver of whom I couldn't place, a beautiful Aston Martin. I released the breath I had been holding. At least if we had a guest my mother would have to wait until later to berate me and I had no intention of giving her the chance. 

Standing up out of my car I smoothed down my dress.  I wore an off the shoulder white dress that cinched at the waist. The neck line and hem was decorated with glittering silver sequin and littered with diamonds I hand stitched myself. I paired the dress with silver slingbacks and adorned my ears with silver earrings that looked like tassels that brushed the tops of my shoulders. My right wrist shone with silver bangles and I wore my class ring that seemed to match them perfectly. My armor was in lace and I felt stronger with it on but I was tempted to wear jeans, a tank top and flip flops.

Evelyn demanded we all dress up for family dinners which i loved as a child but s my ire grew so did my need to spite her. I actually did it when i came home one summer to visit from college. I had no idea my parents were entertaining and cam bouncing down the stairs with cut off jean shorts and a tank top and you guessed it flip flops. The guest just had to be one of my fathers old college buddies, the senator of Georgia. Evelyn was livid.

I made my way into the living room and was immediately disappointed my sister in law wasn't in attendance. I made my way over to my father and kissed his cheek and he looked up at me from the chess game he and Eden were playing with a smile on his handsome face.

"Hello pumpkin. How was the drive over? You didn't have to drive all this way alone you know one of your brothers could have picked you up."

"The drive was just fine and I'm perfectly capable of getting myself here in one piece daddy."

"Don't I know it."

"Hey Iss," Cameron said giving me his best pitiful face.

I completely ignore him and kiss Eden's cheek and sit down beside him.

"Where are Afia and my beautiful niece?"

"She refuses to leave her and according to her she isn't ready to leave the house yet."

"Her or the baby?"

"The baby. Afia says she's not ready to be outside in populated air whatever that means. At this rate I don't think she'll even return to work which is fine with me but I'm afraid she won't leave her side until she's grown." Eden and my dad both shook their heads laughing looking just alike.

"Well tell her I miss her and I'll stop by to see them both this week."

"Ok, now go away your father is a shark on the chess board."

"And don't you forget it boy."

Cameron tries to get my attention again waving at me from behind my father and I ignore him again and quite possibly forever. I stand ready to go and greet the queen when my father calls me.

"Your boyfriend is here already but you shouldn't have made the poor boy come alone Pumpkin. I'm sure he was nervous but he seems to be a nice boy."

"Who?"

"Your boyfriend."

"Daddy I don't have a-"

I was interrupted by laughter coming from behind me. Turning around I see Tazeem coming down the hallway with Kenly fucking Azikiwe.
