"Thanks, man. I'll come to pick it up right now. I've got the night shift, and you're on my way. You're a lifesaver. I'll see you soon." Robert hangs up the phone, grab his car keys, and whistles a happy tune. John, his buddy from school and a lawyer, obtained a court order for Robert to receive Asher's birth certificate. Robert is glad that this step is over because it was quite the process.

"Why do you need the certificate?" John poked Robert's glasses up his nose. Robert scowled and swatted his hand away.

       "Because the kid wants it."

      "So?

"So? He wants to know his biological parents."

"Do you think a judge will care?"

     "I sure hope so."

"Your hope is futile. We need a legitimate reason.'

"I don't have any other reason."

"Then good luck trying to get that court order."

     "You're a useless lawyer."

     "And you're a useless sheriff."

"What's your reasoning behind that statement?"

"There is no reasoning. I just wanted to insult you." John stuck his tongue at him. Robert raised his eyes to heaven.

"How you passed law school will always be a mystery to me."

"Because G-d foresaw that I needed to help my good pal, Robert. Yet, if he keeps being his snarky self then I have other work to finish." John swiveled in his armchair and began typing on his computer.

     "Fine. I'll play nice."

"Good! Now, let's get to work!"

                                                                      ********************************

"This won't work." Robert shook his head.

"Always the pessimistic one, Robert." John tsked.

"I'm not pessimistic. Asher would not want to talk to you. I don't want to talk to you."

"We don't have any other options. I can't handle you anymore. We've been going at it for weeks!"

"Two weeks and that's because we're busy."

"Doesn't matter the reason. What type of lawyer would I be if I didn't collect evidence? Not a lawyer at all. I need evidence for my case. A free dinner is always good, too." John winked.

"I knew there was an ulterior motive." Robert sighed.

                                                                        ***********************

     "Dinner!" Laura called.

"This tastes amazing! I can't believe I let you go." John moaned in delight.

"Mommy and Uncle John dated? That's gross!" Joshua cringed.

"I agree." Robert nodded his head.

"We were a cute couple." John defended.

      "I agree." Laura teased.
