"I feel fat," I pout as I stare at myself in the mirror. The longer that I looked at myself, the more I seemed to regret buying this monstrosity. It was silver and sparkling like a preschooler threw an entire container of art glitter on me. What? I thought it'd be a good joke at least...
"You look fine, Tay," Mallory promised, trying to coax me to come out of the bathroom. "Let me see."
I groaned but it was getting stuffy in here, so I unlocked and yanked open the door. Mallory grins at me and I give her a sarcastic little twirl and a small, annoyed frown.
"You look gorgeous, what the hell are you even talking about?" she says earnestly, hugging me.
I smile half heartedly, knowing I was stuck with the dress whether I liked it or not at this point. "Thanks Mallie. Now go get changed," I order as I pick up her dress and push her towards the bathroom.
"Alright, alright," she laughed. "He texted you by the way," she winks before quickly before taking her dress from my hand and closing the door.
I roll my eyes but curiously walk over and pick up my phone from my bed. Unlocking my phone my eyes quickly read the text.
Sry. Change of plans and probably won't be able to go tonight. See you at school
He did not just cancel on me. He did not just say sry to me.
Great. I didn't even have a date now because of him. I hear the bathroom open behind me and I take a deep breath-Kase was not going to ruin all the hard work Mallory put into making me look amazing for tonight.
"So what'd he say?" she asks, tugging on her dress in the mirror, adjusting it even though it already looked perfect on her.
"Oh nothing," I say, brushing it off. "Do you think your date could pick us up instead?" I ask casually.
She gives me a confused look. "Uh yeah, I think so, I'll call him." She studies me for a second and then scowled. "That little bitch canceled, didn't he," she says as if she expected this all along.
"You know it," I roll my eyes. I'm absolutely furious but at the same time I'm sort of upset. For one second, I thought he was actually trying to be friends again. At least he never fails to disappoint me; that I can always count on.
Before I can even think about sulking or even breathe for that matter, Mallory's date rings the doorbell.
"Well, that was really fast," I mutter and Mallory laughs grabbing her phone and a twenty just in case. "He was probably waiting outside your house for all we know," I say and I grab my stuff and follow Mallory out of her room and throw myself on her couch, while she open the door to her date, Jack.
"Hey, Jack," she chirps and gives him a quick kiss on the cheek.
"Hey Malls," he says happily. "This is Alex," he says and I hear his friend give a quick 'hi". "Where's Taylor?" I hear Jack ask. I scowl at the wall in front of me before putting on a quick smile and hopping up off the couch and quickly to Mallie's side.
"I don't know where Taylor is, but I'm Tayce," I smile sweetly. "Nice to meet you, Jack. And Alex"
Alex give me an amused smile, but Jack just stares at me a little confused and bewildered. Alex speaks up, losing the whole shy guy attitude. "Hey, my date bailed on my too, but their loss right?" he says with a joking tone. I laugh a little and he holds up the corsage I now noticed he was holding in his hand. "Homecoming?"
He wasn't Kase, but this was sure as hell going to work if I was going to make Kase feel bad about ditching me. This was the last time Kade would ever get to play me because it was the last time I was going to let him use me. "Absolutely," I smile at Alex, and he slides the corsage on my wrist.
