Logan sat on the blanket sprawled across the grass of their local park, taking in the radiance of his boyfriend of only a few months. His mind was filled with all the ways his significant other was perfect, and he didn't care if he was the only one to see it, in his mind, the only person in this world who mattered was Patton.
Patton turned to him, and sent him a goofy smile, one that only he could make look adorable, Logan was instantly captivated by his eyes, and his eyes alone. The mocha brown that held almost every kind of happy emotion, happiness, love, admiration, excitement. It didn't matter, he was happy, and that alone made Logan feel butterflies in his stomach.
He didn't care if being sat on the blanket, expressing his love for Patton was right or wrong, because in that moment, they were the only two people to exist, and no one could ruin that.
Logan looked at their intertwined fingers, and felt a surge of happiness. This man next to him was his, and his alone. No one would take him away, no matter what. He would fight to keep him for as long as he could. He would work through the arguments, work through the darkness, and grow with him. They belonged, and he didn't care. He was smitten, and if that meant he was foolish and vulnerable, then he didn't care.
Patton's hand was soft, and it felt just right in his hold. He didn't care about the harsh gazes they were getting, he liked how he felt. The touch between them was tender, and it made it too easy to forget about everything else.
He caught Patton looking at the mother sat with her child on the bench across from them, shielding the child's eyes. What was she trying to hide? Love? Happiness? If she was, then that child was doomed to have a boring life. Maybe it was her that prompted him to do what he did, he didn't know, but he knew it was the right thing to do.
She walked over to them, and left her child on the bench, where she made sure to hide them with her body, so the child couldn't see what they were doing. It wasn't like it was anything really intimate, but somehow she had a problem with it.
"I'm not against you, but I wish you didn't do it in front of my children."
The words seemed to spark something inside of Logan. It felt like a challenge, to see what he could do to annoy this woman. He knew he shouldn't rise to her, but he couldn't help it. He was tired of the homophobia. He wasn't going to keep his relationship concealed inside their houses. They loved one another, and the weren't going to hide away forever.
Patton looked up, and noticed all the eyes on them, and Logan could sense the radiating anxiety. He squeezed his hand a little tighter, which caused Patton to turn his head to Logan's.
Now Or Never.
Logan's breathing picked up slightly, matching with his heartbeat. He was going to do it, and he didn't care if the entire park full of people saw, he didn't care if homophobic people stared, or were repulsed. They were allowed to express themselves, and he didn't care what anyone else said. They were together, and dare he say that he loved Patton, so there was no one to stop him from doing it.
He leaned in, feeling Patton's breath hitch, and he smiled, a small reassuring smile, telling Patton that it was okay, and he had no reason to worry. Their breaths collided, and swirled upwards, showing that they didn't care. They were free, and so should their owners.
Logan closed the small gap between them, and their lips collided. Passion and love mixing, their lips moving together, making them feel as though they were on cloud nine.
It all ended too soon, but the reassurances of Love as they exchanged glances and phrases after they parted affirmed it all. They were happy, and if anyone had a problem, then they could take it elsewhere.
He despised emotions, but if that was what it took to make his mind explode, and leave him perplexed, then he would do it a thousand times over, because he loved the way it made him feel.
"It's okay for your children to look, because the people who are with us, wouldn't shield their eyes."
Logan turned to the woman, who was fuming, and she grabbed her child, and stormed off.
It was a victory in their minds, and a day that they would always look back on, because after the woman left, a few people erupted into cheers, and they shared their second kiss.
Maybe the entire world wasn't homophobic, but people would always be, and as long as they had each other, they didn't care.
