Scenario one:
CH/1 had gone to the surface of the water plenty of times to sightsee, it was amazing up there, how could they not? One day, however, they get a little too close to a ship and get caught in a net, severely damaging their tail in thr process of struggling to escape. CH/2 realizes their crew caught something, and seeing how damaged the poor creature's tail was, they decide to help.
Scenario two:
CH/1 had made their way up to the surface. Not to sightsee or to find different food, but as more of a suicide attempt. They didn't have the courage to do this themselves, so the pirates would have to do it for them. When CH/2 inevitably catches CH/1, they have other plans. CH/1 was such a beautiful siren and wasn't even fighting capture, something must be wrong, and CH/2 is determined to find out what.
