Fall of 2015

He was walking down the street in a busy European city. Cars and people were passing him as he ran over to the farmer's market. He needed plums and other veggies. He was living in a shelter for men. It was his turn to cook for everyone. The man was tall and handsome. He had the bluest of eyes. His hair blew in the wind. It was light brown and down to his ears. He had a five clock shadow around his mouth, chin, and down his neck. The vendor was serving other customers. For James Buchanan Barnes, he was living in Romania for the last few months. He checked the plums for softness. Some of the plums were soft to eat for a snack. He picked up a couple of plums with his gloved hand.

"How much are these plums?" Bucky asked the vendor in Romanian.

"They are twenty five cents per pound." The vendor answered back in Romanian.

Bucky gave the vendor his money for the plums. He walked away from the tent. Next, Bucky saw a vegetable tent nearby. He picked up carrots, green beans, a bag of potatoes, celery sticks and turnips. He paid the vendor the money was owed. Bucky made his way over to the other end of the street. He had everything in his hands.

While he was walking down the street, Bucky began to feel sweat down his back. He started to have flashbacks from his assassin days. The flashbacks began to paralyze him. He saw himself in a chair and shooting innocent people. Then he dropped to the ground when he felt shooting pain all over his body. A young woman watched him on the street. She ran over to him. He collapsed on the street, and Bucky hit his head off the pavement. He heard screaming as he floated in and out of consciousness. Bucky heard sirens and people talking as he laid on the ground. Next, he saw white walls in the ambulance. He thought he seen an angel above him. Bucky lost consciousness during the ride to the hospital.

A few days later, Bucky woke up in a hospital bed. He saw the same angel coming into his room. She had beautiful long red hair and chocolate brown eyes. The young woman was standing in front of the bed. Bucky groaned as she walked over to him. She checked his vitals. The young woman had a name tag read "Violetta Gaines" on it. She was about five foot four inches, slim but fit, and very beautiful up close.

"I see you're awake finally." She said as she fixed his blankets.

"Where am I?" Bucky asked her.

"You're in a hospital, James." She answered.

"It's Bucky." He told her his nickname.

A doctor came into his room. He was average build. He had combed back black hair and green eyes. Bucky saw a notebook with him. Violetta gave the doctor Bucky's vitals. Then the doctor left the room. Violetta sat Bucky in the bed. She put the table in front of him.

"Are you hungry, Bucky?" She asked him.

"Yeah, I'm hungry." He replied.

"I will call down to the cafeteria to order you some lunch." Violetta told him.

"Thank you!" He said.

"You're welcome." She replied. Violetta left the room.

Bucky laid in the bed. He wanted out of the hospital. His fear of being caught by the Avengers or those who were looking for him after Washington DC was high. Bucky took his oxygen line off and threw it on the floor. He ripped the pads for the heart monitor off of his chest. The monitor began to scream out in a code. Violetta and the other nurses rush into the room. They seen Bucky standing up from bed.

"Mr. Barnes, I mean Bucky. You shouldn't move out of bed or remove the pads or the oxygen." Violetta told him.

"I want out of here." Bucky said as he looked her in the eyes.
