This acronym all together means Bondage, Discipline, Dominance, Submission, Sadism and finally Masochism.
First I want to talk about Bondage and Discipline which is sometimes shorten to (BD). The word Bondage means to be restrained, this is where the Dominant partner consensually ties up the Submissive partner, this can either be a form of punishment or part of a scene. Discipline however is different, this is normally when the Dominant partner punishes the Submissive partner for not following rules.
Next I want to talk about Dominance, Submission which is sometimes shorten to (DS). Dominance is also commonly known as the Dominant, the dominant takes care of the submissive in multiple different ways such as physical, mental and sexual. The dom takes on a very stressful role so to all those bratty subs try to give them a full body massage at least once a month and who knows you might just get rewarded very handsomely. Submission is something completely different. This is a sub giving the dom their complete trust and freedom (within the contract). The sub can do many things depending on what type of sub and part of BDSM that the sub and dom practice, for example a submissive slave could for example tidy up and do hard work or pleasure their master where as a normal sub would not want to do such things because they have different lifestyles.
Finally I want to talk about Sadism and Masochism which is sometimes shorten to (SM). Sadism is a person who can get sexual gratification from inflicting pain or humiliating others they can also feel powerful from inflicting pain on the other person this is why most sadist are the dominant partner but it can also be the submissive. Masochism is a person who derives sexual gratification from their own pain or humiliation, This could be the submissive and the dom much like sadism.
