Seeking Hope

The World is a Dangerous Place

(Dayna's POV)
As I catch my breath, shaking badly and trying to calm down, Aiden sits beside me and pats my shoulder. I look over at him "What time does the bell ring?" He stares at me for a second "What?" I pull out my schedule "I can't be late to class." He shakes his head before laughing "You really want to go to class after all of that?" I glare "Of course I do. I'm not trying to fail my classes." Aiden smiles slightly and grabs my hand, pulling me up off the floor before saying "At least get some water first." I sigh and follow him to the water fountain and we go to our first class, a bit early and I introduce myself to the teacher and he puts me in a desk beside Aiden.
As I sit there I quietly tap my food, starting to get a headache and I lay my head down on the desk, ignoring the teacher and I pick at the dried blood on my knuckles and feel like I have no energy and I quietly fall asleep.

Aiden's POV

I watch as she falls asleep and I smile slightly and do my work until the bell rings. Once it does I smack Dayna's arm to wake her up and she groans and slowly gets up, dragging her bag and follows me to the next class. She falls asleep in there as well and then it's time for lunch.

She picks at the school food before pushing it away and puts her head down and I quietly look at her closer. I notice how tiny and skinny she really is and looks at the food she barely touched and things start clicking in my mind and I stare at the table, thinking.

I notice her move and I see how swollen her knuckle is and I frown slightly. I watch her pull her sleeves over her hands and inch away from me and I guess she noticed me staring so I quickly look away. I finish my food and take my tray as she quietly follows behind me with her own tray.

After lunch we go back to class and I watch as she puts her head down on the desk again and drifts off to sleep.
