Dayna POV
I walk around outside, waiting for the school bus. I notice Aiden waiting as well and walk over to him "Hey Aiden". He smiles and waves "Hey Dayna, waiting on the bus too?" I nod and sit my bookbag on the ground, humming quietly. He taps my shoulder lightly and I turn to look at him "Hm?". He was holding out the drawing "Is this what you were drawing in the tree?" I blush deeply and stutter over my words "U-um.." He smiles again, "It's a really nice drawing, although I don't see how you see me the way you drew me" I frown a bit "What do you mean?" He sighs softly "In this I look so carefree, like there isn't anything wrong with me" I tilt my head a bit, thinking, before saying "Well I draw what I see, what you choose to show. You act like nothing fazes you. But you're not looking at the details, Aiden." I take the picture, and point to the faint bruise shaded on his cheek before pointing to his eyes, which show the depth of his pain. He looks a bit startled, I speak "the eyes are the window to the soul. You may hide everything with a easygoing facade but your eyes show me who you truly are." He voice shakes a little "Who am I?" I look at him intently "You are the person you're pretending not to be. You're careful, shy, hurt, but there's a war in your eyes. You can't decide whether to tough it all out or to end it all. You weigh the choices. What will you lose by leaving, what will you gain by staying. That's what I see in your eyes." He stares at me, stunned silent. I smile slightly and rub my neck, "sorry that's kind of a deep conversation this early in the morning." He looks away as the bus pulls up, "It's okay." Without saying another word we get on the bus and start the ride to school.
