Daddy Material | Calls

It was a Thursday and Calum was at his apartment on his couch binge watching TV shows with a bag of barbecue chips in his lap. Today was like a lazy day since he didn't have any work and Ashton was out doing god knows what. As he was watching TV his thoughts went back to last Saturday, the night of the party that Ashton had brought him to. He thought about Lydia, wondering what she could be doing. Ever since that party he has been thinking about her nonstop. And honestly, she was the only thing that has been on his mind for the past few days.

Then, it had occurred to him that she told him that she was going to give him a call soon. It has been a few days after the party and Calum was still waiting for his phone to ring. Since then he hasn't gotten any strange calls or even a text. He was starting to wonder if Lydia was ever going to hit him up like she said she would. Deep down he wanted to talk to her again. It was something about her presence that he really liked. She made him feel some things he has never felt before, and oddly he liked it.

Calum didn't have the best luck when it came to girls. He wasn't the most confident guy and he was quite awkward when he was around people he didn't know. Ashton would always try to set him up with some stranger but it never worked out. He has never been in a relationship, yet alone being intimate with a woman. Calum was just really to himself and closed off. He has never gotten the chance to be close and personal with someone he cares about. And the problem is that no one really cared about him in that manner.

Ashton wanted Calum to step out of his comfort zone and try new things, but that was a little too overwhelming for Calum. He liked being in his comfort zone, his bubble, his box, or whatever you would like to call it. One thing that gave him anxiety is being rejected (or the thought of rejection) and being set up for failure. He didn't put himself in those situations mainly because it would lower his confidence even more than it already is. You could say that he wasn't the person to take risks because he worried if the outcome would be something bad.

"I bet she doesn't even like me," Calum came to a conclusion that maybe Lydia just wanted his number just for the hell of it. It disappointed him because he was actually looking forward into talking to her and maybe getting to know her more as a person.

Reality is that it was rare for girls to ask for his number or vice versa. In all honesty he never gave out his number to somebody he didn't know, yet there was something exciting about Lydia so for some reason he just..gave it her. That had him thinking that she would actually call him but he was starting to lose hope because she hasn't.

Just when the TV show went on commercial his phone started to ring. With his mouth still stuffed with chips he looked at the caller to see that it was an unknown number. He squinted his eyes at the screen, debating if he should answer or let it go through. But about time he was about to answer the call was too late.

But then two seconds later his phone started to ring again with the same unknown number calling.

"Fuck it," Calum mumbles with a full mouth, he answered the call and pressed the phone to his ear. "Hello?"

"Hello my ass," Lydia had sassed with a scoff. "Why didn't you pick up the first time?"

Calum choked on his chips which made him start coughing very roughly, some chips even falling out of his mouth and onto the floor. His eyes were watering and his throat felt like it was fire. After like five minutes of coughing and trying to get his shit together he pressed the phone back up to his ear and said something back, "I-I didn't know it was you."

"Mmh, I told you I would call you Calum. I just haven't gotten to it because I've been busy with work," she tells him honestly.

"It's fine um..at least you still called," Calum coughed again, hitting his chest with a fist.

"Were you worried that I wasn't?" She had asked with a bit of a giggle on the other end.

"A bit, yeah," Calum confesses with a deep breath.

"I'm a woman of my word. You don't have to worry about me letting you down," she assured him.

Calum nodded his head slowly, but then realized that she couldn't see him, "Y-Yeah, that's nice."

"What you been up to handsome?" Lydia asks with a flirty tone.

Calum's face lit up in flames, he smiled at the nickname, "Workin' and just ya know..eating chips," he tells her.

"Barbecue?" She questioned.

"Yes," Calum answers with a soft chuckle.

"That explains why I can smell your breath over the phone," she teases, soon pretending to be throwing up in the background.

"You can't either," Calum huffed out, even smelling his own breath.

"I can too," she bickered back. "Here, lemme slide you some gum through the phone."

Calum rolled his eyes, "Shut up and just tell me what you've been up to lately."

"Ya know, workin' and eating chips," Lydia tells him. "Barbecue chips of course."

"Hey don't mock me," Calum whines leaning back on the couch.

"I'm not mocking you, it's true!" She laughs, and as on cue she started crunching loudly. "Damn, these are so good."

"Where do you work at?" Calum asks her.

"At a hair salon with my bestfriend, we own it. It's downtown right across from the bank," she tells him, burping afterwards. "Oops, sorry."

"It's okay," Calum chuckles. "Anyways, I know where that is. I work a block down from it at a graphic design company."

"Noice," she commented.

"Noice?" Calum repeated the word, frowning up a bit.

"It's a funny way of saying 'nice' Calum," she explained with a small giggle afterwards.

Calum nodded his head, making a mental note with himself to remember that, "Right, I knew that..duh."

"Mmh, sure," she hummed rolling her eyes. "Anyways, what are you doing this weekend?"

"Nothing..why?" He asks.

"So we can hang out silly, duh," she mocked him.

He began to blush a little bit, "Y-You wanna hang out with me?"

"If I didn't why would I ask for your number and call you?" Lydia questioned with a more serious tone.

"Oh," Calum bit his bottom lip to hold back his smile. He felt so special.

"So it's settled then my guy. We'll meet at the fountain and we can do whatever we want from there if you're up for it," Lydia suggested.

"Of course..yeah—duh, you know I'm up for anything," Calum spoke trying to be more confident.

She laughed before saying, "You might wanna reconsider that statement if you're dealing with me."

"You're right," Calum chuckles running his fingers through his messy hair.

"Cool, I'll see you this Saturday handsome," Lydia says to him sweetly.

"Yeah," he nodded, the plans sounding good to him. "Bye now Lydia."

"Bye bye!" She bided her farewell in a happy, childish voice before she ended the call.

Calum set his phone aside and released a deep breath. He sat up straight and tugged on his hair. Not was his anxious, but he was super excited about this hang out with Lydia this Saturday. He hoped that things go well, because for in a long time he felt good about himself.
