You were caught off guard by Toffee's sudden show of affection and you tensed up. He realized this after a moment and gently rubbed your arms with his surprisingly smooth lizard-like hands.
"Its alright, Y/N" he said softly with a slight chuckle.
"I know...but you just...surprised me" you say with a slight giggle. Toffee smiles and kisses your forehead. You squeak.
"Awe, thats adorable."
"What? No it's not, you shut up" you say, pouting and blushing.
"Awww, that's even more cute" he says as he picks you up, wrapping his arms and tail around you.
You were now face to face with him, his eyes flickering with the candle that was on the table for atmosphere and the pleasant vanilla scent.
"What do you think you're doing?" you say, giggling.
"Holding you, you adorable thing. It's to irresistible."
You felt your cheeks turn red and you couldn't help but smile a bit. He's too irresistible and sweet. Damn.
"Awe, you blush turquoise.." he said softly, admiring your cheeks.
"I...didn't usually blush like this..."
"Well, yea, I know that" he says, rolling his eyes in amusement. "Before you were turned into this."
"Yea, this blue water nymph lookin' freak" you say, matter-of-factly.
Toffee looked a little hurt after that statement...oops.
"W- hey I didn't mean y-" you were hushed with the tip of his tail on your lips. His expression lifted a bit.
"Y/N, you aren't a freak, in this form or your mewman form. You're beautiful either way, inside and out. And even when you get old, your personality will still be more beautiful than anyone else that may psychically look better than you, and in the long run, that is all that matters. You might not think it, but it is. A beautiful bitch won't go far in life, unless its far into prostitution or something."
Surprised by his sudden, beautiful lecture and romance, you just stare at him. You can feel hus heart racing from it as if he had just banished a thousand of Satan's spawn from his soul. He then squeezes you in the hug and lays his head on yours.
"I love you" he says, quivering in his voice a tad.
You stopped everything. You stopped blinking. You stopped breathing. You stopped even thinking about what he just said. Like water sinking into your skin or a feather falling in air, it traveled through your ears, lightly whisking into your head, into your brain, your mind, and into your heart, settling, spreading, and becoming a thought, a purpose, an urge.
After a few moments, you vocal cords work again, you inhale fresh air into your lungs, and say,
"I..."
You felt Toffee tense slightly.
"I love you... Too... Toffee..."
You could feel his smile form and almost immediately after, you could feel his tears drop onto your head and his body quaver. After a moment, he fell on his knees, still holding onto you. He was crying now. Tears of joy, you could tell. You hugged him as tightly as you could, nuzzling his chest slightly and inhaling his pleasant scent. His tears spread to you as you teared slightly and sniffled a bit. His scent overpowered you and calmed you greatly. You felt tremendously relaxed.
You were almost asleep in his comforting arms untol you heard him begin to say something.
"Huh?.." you murmur. "What?"
He lifts your body off of his gently and held his nose against yours.
"It's been too long since I've heard those words..." he said quietly. The tears now seemed a little...sad.
"O...oh...Toffee, I'm sorry" you say, still groggy.
He held up his hand. "Don't be..."
You nodded and sat there silently for about five minutes, looking at his thigh. After another moment, you piped up.
"When was...the last time you heard it?" you murmured.
"..."
He seemed to be thinking, then trying to get himself to say it. He inhaled slowly.
"When I was only a teenager...my mother told me that for the last time...before pushing me through the window and away from the magical inferno that was set in our house..."
...
You paused for a moment, giving him time to collect himself.
...
"I'm sorry."
"It's in the past..."
"But it was unfair..."
"It's not like you could've helped it..."
"But maybe I ca-" you paused and immediately sprang onto a small shadow creeping into the room. Ludo screeched in fear.
"Let go of me Mewman!!" he demanded. Under his arm were fresh papers that Toffee had just written on... And chalk dust... The chalk board was erased. What the...
You looked at Ludo and smiled.
"Toffee, I think we just cracked the case of the spying bird."
He walked over, smiling, looming over both you and Ludo. "Yes, it seems we have...are we sure Ludo isn't a seagull? They're awfully terrible theifs."
