NATASHA'S POV
After yesterday's Nikolai scare, I decide to pack a few clothes and move back into my old room at the compound for a few days, to James' excitement. I decided against moving into James' room, though one of us will probably end up in the others room at some point or another. I hope that if James has another nightmare while I'm not in there, that he feels like he can come to my room to talk or to simply cuddle. I loved being there for him over the past two nights and I hope I'm helping just the tiniest bit in some way.
My room is exactly how I left it. A queen bed under the big window with two bedside tables on either side, a large desk with shelves above on one wall and a dresser against the other and next to the door is a decent sized wardrobe. I put my clothes away and put my weapons on my shelf and a bunch of files on my desk before making my way down to the training room to beat the hell out of a training dummy. Nikolai's message got !e wound up, especially because it's aimed at my boyfriend.
"Hey Nat," I almost roundhouse kick Clint at the sound of his voice but my foot stops an inch before his temple. I sigh heavily and pull him in for a hug to both apologise and say hey. "Nikolai got to you, didn't he? With his threat to Bucky."
"I'm compromised." I toss my wraps in my locker and plop down on a bench. Clint sits next to me with apologetic eyes even though he has nothing to apologise for. "How am I supposed to protect the guy I'm head over heels for when he's being a stubborn old man like Rogers."
"Stand by him and call him out when he's being an idiot." I sigh, wiping sweat off my forehead before nodding in agreement with his words. "We will take Nikolai down, to protect everyone. It's our job."
"When's our next mission?" I ask, wanting to stay busy and kick some real ass not rubber ass. My question is answered by my phone going off
"We're about to find out." Clint holds up his phone, it has the word 'assemble' on the screen.
We both get up and head back to the conference room where everyone is sitting around. I take my seat between Clint and James, opening the folder in front of me. Robert Stims, a scientist in everything human body, likes to experiment on kids and teens without permission of parents, tends to go for orphans to make it easier.
"He's trying to forcibly make more enhanced, offers them food and shelter to draw them in before torturing for results or death." Steve pulls the targets picture up on the screen. I look at Wanda, she seems angry but it's hard to tell what at. She had volunteered for the experiments on her and her late twin brother.
"Everyone in Strucker's experiments volunteered, we knew what we were getting into, these kids don't." Wanda has a fair point, she chose this while these kids being taken didn't.
"Wolf, Widow, this is your mission. Fury's orders. You make the plan and you move out before dark. Everyone else, dismissed." Steve folds his arms and everyone leaves except me, James, Wanda, Clint and Steve.
"Wanda, we will save all the kids and help those who have developed powers, I promise." I look her directly in the eyes, she seems to relax by my promise. I won't let anymore kids die, not if James and I can help it. "FRIDAY, pull up the blueprints for Stims' facility."
"There's only two ways in, both heavily guarded." FRIDAY says after projecting the plans for the building, and she's right. Two doors on opposite ends of the facility, no windows at all.
"Would teams of two work? James and I go through this door," I point to the door up the top then point down at the bottom door while looking at Clint and Wanda. "And you two through this door. We meet in this room here, right in the middle, knocking everyone out as we go."
"That could work but we don't know how many are inside, we only know about the guards on the outside." Steve points out, swiping away the prints, so the eagle eye view photos are on screen. There's a couple dozen guards at each door, and another few dozen around the area.
"We've faced worse odds. We can do it." I probably sound over confident but we have. Steve, Sam and I with the help of Agent Hill and Fury took down SHIELD and Hydra before a few million people were killed. That was when James was under the control of Hydra as their Winter Soldier. "We've faced aliens and a god, and won. We fought an AI turned killer with an army of bots, and won, and we've taken down Hydra. We can do this too."
Steve sighs and nods because even he can't deny that we haven't faced worse odd than this. Plus, three assassin's and a trainee with magical powers against an army? We'll surely win and save those kids. Once we've come up with a strong plan, the four of us go gear up and make sure the two Quinjets are stocked with medical supplies and food just in case, and Doctor Banner comes aboard the jet James and I will be on to give immediate medical attention to any kid who needs it.
I may or may not have gotten an earful from Clint's wife, Laura about recruiting him for a late night mission but after reassuring and promising that I'll bring him back in one piece, she relaxed and we talk about other stuff (James and I) before hanging up when it's time for us to leave. I grab my batons and put in my ear piece before meeting James and Banner on the jet.
