The pair were walking through the forest, not really knowing where they were going, but they kept wandering anyway, laughing and chattering away.
"Haha yeah I thought-" Phil stopped in his tracks. "Did you hear that?" Dan listened to try and hear what Phil had paused for. A car. The two of them looked at eachother. Dan noticed a smirk appear on Phil's face. He could feel one grow on his too. Civilisation.
"Hey Dan," Phil began, not breaking eye contact with Dan.
"Yes, Phil?" Dan could feel the smirk grow on his face.
"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?"
"Hitchhiking." The pair said in sync. They had only known each other for no more than a day, but Dan felt like he knew Phil his entire life.
The two speed walked in the direction the sound was coming from. It got closer and closer until, "SPOTTO!" Dan proclaimed at the sight of a yellow car passing by, making Phil jump. They both looked at each other once again, smiling, then extending their thumbs out into the road, waiting for a car to pull over. They walked beside the highway for about an hour, but no cars were pulling over. It didn't seem to bother either of them. They got along so well, it almost wasn't funny. They talked and they walked and they walked and they talked. When a car finally pulled over, they didn't even realise. The rusty old ute came along side the boys and the window went down.
"'Ello, lil fellas! Off ta town?" An old country farmer looked to be their transport.
"Ah, yes!" Phil jumped in before Dan could even open his mouth. "But if I may ask, which town?"
"Aw well, you boys obviously not from 'round 'ere." He smiled and gestured to the ute for the boys to hop in.
Dan reluctantly followed Phil as he bounced into the back of the ute. There were a few random tools and things in the ute that Dan noticed. He looked up at the back of the cab.
"Shelly's Strawberries. London's favourite berry."
Dan's eyes widened and he turned to Phil, completely oblivious to the situation.
"London. We're going to London."
