Summer is Now

Summer is now
In this hot stuffy room
With the small fan whirring in the corner
Or on a stretch of crowded sand
Waves rushing
In busy streets bountiful with buskers
Stalls set up, air heavy with foody scents
In a park of picnic people
Who are playing frisbee, flying kites
Or simply sandwich munching
Summer is now
It's fabric clinging to the skin
The sound of music in the air
As hot balloons ascend like lanterns in a movie
Summer is now
As I spoon ice cream into my oven mouth
Sit my feet in cooling water
That's tinged pink with a bath bomb
Taking selfies, shaded from the sun
Summer is now
In an airport with shades on your head
Luggage in your hands
And plans in your head
Summer is now
Baking in bed, despite the thin cover
The open window
Letting in only warm air
Not wanting to sleep and let
Another day slip by like ice cubes away from a poking straw
Goodnight Summer.
