(Reader POV)
Seven officers, seven! Seven, who actually stuck around and wanted to work for L. Since there were only few, L wanted to mean us personally. He said arrive two hours apart, so I would he heading over to the hotel with Matsuda. Matsuda would already be at the hotel, so I had to hurry. I got in my car after getting dressed, I put on my music and sped off. I was very nervous, so the only thing I could do was focus on the road and listen to my music on high blast.
I arrived at the hotel, I saw Matsuda, I waved and went to park my car. I got out and walked towards him, his face held a shocked expression.
"You didn't have to dress up that fancy, (Y/n)." He rubbed the back of his neck. He was right, I wore a black dress that was up to my knees and it was a little bit revealing around the cleavage area with black heels.
"Well what do you wear to this sort of thing? I don't exactly have an outfit for meeting "the greatest detective in the world"! So this is the best I could think of." I said, Matsuda laughed.
"You look beautiful in regular clothes, you really didn't have to do that." His face went red as he said that, I just giggled.
"Thanks, I just wanted to make a good impression on L." I said, he nodded and we both walked up to the room.
Once we were there, we saw the chief and the other members. They both looked that us as we walked down the hall.
"If you were going to dress up, then I should've." The chief teased.
"You look great already, chief." I laughed, now the nerves started to hit me.
"Is anyone else here..very nervous?" I asked, everyone nodded.
"Very, I wander what he looks like." Matsuda said, I nodded.
"What if he's like an old man?" I teased, Matsuda chuckled.
"With such a weird sounding voice filter." Matsuda and I laughed, "then you dressed up for an ugly old guy!"
"Now, that will be embarrassing!" I added, still giggling.
"Enough you two." Chief said, he knocked on the door. I gulped, my heart started to race.
"It's open, come in." A voice said, I grabbed Matsuda's arm, which made him blush.
We all stepped into the room, there stood a tall man, he wore blue jean's and a white shirt. He had pitch black hair that almost went over his eyes,
"I am L." He said, I was shocked.
"He is definitely not an old man." I whispered to Matsuda, he nodded. I kept staring at him, he looked so different then what I had imagined. My gaze didn't change when I heard the others announce their names, I just looked down at the floor once his eyes met mine. I felt my knees shake, I looked back when he rose his hand into a gun shape.
"Bang!" He said, making me giggle. The others just stared in shock, he looked over the group again.
"If I were Kira, you would be dead. Kira needs a face and a name to commit murder, please don't give your names out so carelessly...except you." L said, pointing to..me?! Oh god!
"You were so busy looking at me, you didn't introduce yourself." He said, "that's smart."
I nervously giggled,
"Call it smart..or just fascinated." I looked down to the ground, I heard a faint laugh.
"Now to the rest, let's value our lives." He said walking away, I looked up at Matsuda.
"Definitely not an ugly old man.." I nervously giggled, "just..different..and a little bit cute."
"Cute?!" Matsuda chocked, I just giggled at his reaction.
"That's enough small talk, shall we discuss the case now?" We all nodded, I walked ahead of the group. I noticed L was looking at what I was wearing, my chest was quite exposed. I shook it off as I went to take a seat, I sat across from L.
The rest of the force joined us, once we were all seated L explained to us what he knew about the case. I stared at L as he explained, sometimes I noticed he would look at me and then quickly glance away. He looked so passionate in what he said, which was a pretty good to see.
"I would like to meet with you all individually before you leave, so I know that Kira isn't among us." L said, everyone went silent, for a little bit too long.
"I'm not up first." I said getting up, making the taskforce chuckle.
"You know when I said I didn't want to be first? I didn't want to be last either." I said sarcastically to L, he chuckled a little bit before sitting back down.
"So (Y/n), why do you want to join the case?" L said,
"How do you know m- nevermind. But..I want to join because it's a very interesting case, I haven't seen one like this before. Except for the dahmer case, but even that one isn't as insane as this one. Dahmer devoured his victims, Kira.. kills with heart attacks..I want to know how and why." I said, I looked up at L who had a small smile on his face.
"Did I say something weird?" I said quickly.
"No, not at all. It's fascinating to see you get to into the 'hows' and 'whys', now I looked at your record..you have quite an interesting file." He kept his gaze locked on my eyes,
"Oh..that.." I felt a little embarrassed.
"It said that you rush into shootings, smarting off to the people who you stop during speedings and took a bullet for one of your partners."
"Well, my job is to help people, I'm a cop. It's not a 'if' it's a 'have', I have to help people. As a cop you have to do crazy things to make sure people won't get hurt, so when I rush into a shooting..it's to make the shooter stop hurting other people. The smarting off thing..well..I have no good excuse for that." I laughed nervously, I turned my gaze to the floor.
"That's very brave, but also reckless. What about taking a bullet for your partner?" He asked, I sighed.
"You met him, I took a bullet for Matsuda. I only got hit in the vest, it wasn't a big deal." I started to play with my hands, I could feel L's eyes on me.
"(Y/n), it will be a pleasure working with you." He finally said, I looked up to see him smile.
"You still want me on the case? Even after you knew how reckless I am?" I was confused, I had a long history or being a little bit too crazy. But the look in L's eye is something that I can only describe as..trusting.
"Yes, you're willing to go to great lengths to keep your coworkers safe. You're someone I would love to work beside." He said, I felt my cheeks heat up.
"Thank you L, so much!" I smiled, he smiled back.
"Let me walk you to the door.." he said, I nodded.
"You know..you didn't have to dress up to see me." He said, I smiled and shook my head.
"Everyone said that, I wanted to make a good impression on you." I admitted,
"You already did when I first met you." He replied, "also.." he trailed off.
"What?" I asked.
"You thought I was going to be an old man?"he asked with confusion, I laughed.
"I was thinking you were, until I saw you."
"So I'm.. cute?" He asked, looking at me. I stopped, my face was turning red.
"You heard that?"
"Yes, I want to know what that mean.." he trailed off,
"You haven't been called cute before?" I asked,
"No."
"It means..the way you look, your facial features are very attractive." I said, I looked up at him, he still looked down at me.
"You're the first woman to ever call me that.." he said, I could tell he was getting a little bit flustered.
"L?" Looked up,
"Yes?" He he asked, our eyes met. I felt my knees weaken, his hair was almost covering his eyes.
"Have you..um..nevermind." I felt stupid trying to say it, I just met this dude.
"What? Tell me." He said,
"It's dumb, I can't say it." I was embarrassed, great.
"Tell me." His monotone voice said,
"Have you had a girlfriend before?" He looked shocked by the question,
"No, I have not."
"That's crazy!" I said,
"How?" He asked,
"You seem like a very nice person, a little bit awkward. But everyone is, your looks are pretty spot on and you're incredibly smart." I smiled at him, he seemed shocked at what I had just said. He was the greatest detective, but you would think that he would have some sort of relationships outside of work.
"That's.. very nice of you to say. Have you got a boyfriend? He asked,
"Nope." I said, I felt his gaze return to me.
"Mr Matsuda talked very high of you. I thought you two would be in a relationship, I saw you holding his arm as you walked in."
"We're just friends, that's all. " I looked up and saw him relax a bit.
"I see, now..it's getting late, you should get going now." I nodded, he opened the door for me. I went to walk away but I was stopped.
"One more thing.."
"Yes?"
"I think you're..cute too. You are one of the most beautiful women that I have ever seen." He looked down, his hair was now covering his eyes. I smiled warmly at him,
"You're so sweet." I kissed his cheek, he felt the spot where I kissed him.
"I better go now, can't wait to start working with you." I said,
"Me too, (Y/n). Good night."
"Good night." I smiled at him,
"I could actually fall for her." He said as he closed the door. I smiled,
"Let's hope."
