Maddie's pov
"Maddie, get your ass down here right now!", shouted Pam from the lounge downstairs.
Pam and I are bestfriends! We became really close, when one day i entered the resturant she works at, she served my meal and when i had to pay up, my purse was no where to be seen! I admit it was careless of me to leave it lying on the table when i went to the restroom but i didn't want anybody to take my seat! Especially because the resturant was packed that day and some had no where to seat.
She ended up paying on my behalf and eventhough i told her i would pay her back, she insisted i never do that or she would break off my legs. Anyways, because i had no money, she offered me taxi fare but i politely declined, telling her that my apartment was not far from the resturant. I walked out of the resturant but not before she gave me her number and took mine in return. After that first encounter, she called me a lot of times, met up and we eventually became the best of friends! It was when we noiced that we lived in the same area that we decided to just get a place fit for both of us and share rent as it would be much easier. Hence we live together now.
" Okay i am coming Pam! What's gotten your panties in a twist! Jeez!", i shouted back. Getting out of my bed and running downstairs!
I didnt even bother fixing up my appearance! I really wanted to look like shit so that she could feel bad for waking me up. Pam being her never even looked sorry.
She was sorting out the mail and she handed a few to me."Come on, open it", she gestured to the one that was sealed with an unusual seal.
I checked its address and gasped out loud.Novak&Logan Industries
"What? What is it? What does it say?", Pam inquired.
"Girl chill, i haven't yet opened it", i replied sarcastically.
I had applied for a job at the most prestigious company in the whole world, well basically not the whole world but something close to that.
And here i was now, with a letter from them.I hoped it would be good news. I don't think i could stomach any more bad news than the crisis we were apparently in. The sole purpose for my application to such a company was because we needed money. *we* being Pam and I. Our landlord Mr. Thompson would have our heads if we didn't pay rent this month! He had given us a warning last month because we had done a late payment. He told us that if we don't pay him on time, he would bring his friends over to deal with us and it wouldn't be so good for us.
I remember the look of fear flash in Pam's eyes but i never asked her of it. She really was afraid of the bulky man. Who wouldn't? The dude was suspected of being part of some gangster in our town so no one wanted to be on his bad side. But Pam really was scared of him, which was normal but what was abnormal was the look he always gave Pam whenever he was around demanding payment.
Anger!
Hate!
Lust!
Sometimes he looked at her like he was saying " you know what happens to young girls like you when they disobey me". If i asked her what that was about, she would brush me off and pretend like nothing happened but i would always see fear and pain in her gaze before she became neutral. It was during one saturday afternoon when we came back from shopping that i saw an advertisement of a position as the the secretary of the C.E.O of Novak&Logan Industries.
I noticed that the position needed no qualifications. Just stated that you should be a brunnete! So i was like, what the heck! Lemme apply for it, i am a brunnete anyways and the payment might be good. So i applied and here i was, holding the response.
"So? Open it! What are you waiting for?", asked Pam bringing me out of my thoughts."Okay, here goes nothing!"
I opened the envelope and took the letter out. I read it out loud to Pam because she was looking expectedly at me.
