Hailey's POV***
I keep my body low to the ground, getting ready to jump. The pack will be here in roughly fifteen minutes...if I can distract them for that long, everything will be fine. Or at least I hope so.
Hailey, can I take over? Berry asks impatiently in my head.
"No, let me handle this. I'm positive I can take care of this. They won't be expecting a future Delta." In the pack rankings, everyone is separated into Alpha, Beta, Delta, Gamma, Warriors, Hunters, and Omega's. To put it simply, Delta's are in charge of training the warriors, Hunter's, and Omega's. So I have a lot of fighting experience, even though I don't really enjoy fighting and it's certainly not something I would do as a hobby.
Alright, but when you need me, you know where I'll be. Berry snickers at her own joke before disappearing into my mind.
"Right...Ha Ha. Such a great time to tell a joke." I shake the thoughts out of my mind getting ready for battle. She's only pretending that she's not paying attention. If anything happens to me, I know for sure she'll take over and my animal side will show completely. Whenever the wolf feels threatened into a corner, they'll show themselves creating the last attempt at survival. Usually, that only happens on pure survival instincts but there have been a few exceptions.
The footsteps come closer, crunching on the leaves and twigs directly in front of me. My heart beat races through my body. Wait for it... The bush in front of me quivers from movement. Wait for it... I freeze bracing myself. He was standing right there, just standing. I could see him through the bush looking down at where I was hidden. He made no move to make any further actions. He was just waiting...like me. Somethings off.
I sit here confused, a bunch of different reasons on why he'd be standing there race through my head. "Is he planning something? Has he known I was here all along? Is he waiting for further instruction? What is he doing?" Berry and I start growing impatient but I don't dare move. Just in case he actually doesn't know I'm here.
"Are you just going to sit there Hailey? I mean, I could stand here all day, but I happen to be on a slight time crunch. Why don't you come on out and we'll have a small chat." The man turns around walking back to the group of people. The blood in my body turns cold when he speaks my name. "How does he know who I am?"
Now that my cover is officially blown, I spring from my hiding place successfully jumping over the brunette landing in front of the tied up children. There are two boys and a girl, I've seen them from time to time at my family's Cafe. I look into the boy's brown eyes who are closest to me giving him a look of reassurance. He moves his head closer taking a whiff of my scent. It took some effort because they were tied up with their back's together, but he quickly smiles, physically relaxing. He knows who I am.
I turn around bearing my teeth when someone starts a slow clap. It's the man with blonde hair. I watch him carefully, shifting my body so I can see all of the men at the same time. I was overpowered here, but these were just Rogues. Don't get too cocky Hay, you'll let down your guard. She was right, I needed to stay focused.
I lower to the ground, flattening my ears to my head, glaring. I let out the lowest growl I could muster warning them to stay back. At this moment, these children were my responsibility. Their parents weren't here and so it was my right to protect them with my life, not only as a future Delta, but as a member of my pack.
The blonde man throws back his head laughing and it wasn't any ordinary laugh. No, this was a full-on hold your stomach because this is too funny laugh. I growl louder watching him wipe a tear from his eye. "Now that's just too funny. You think you can protect them? That you can save them from us?" He and the other guys except for the black-haired one laugh again.
