All morning, the weather had been broadcasting some sort of storm on its way. I decided, if I was going to be holed in, I needed some fresh air before hand.
As I left my apartment, I didn't expect to see the familiar, petite figure of Luna waiting for me outside her door, nor did I expect her sudden question, "What's going on with you and my brother?"
"What?" I asked sleepily. To my credit, I hadn't gotten an ounce of sleep last night. Even with the knowledge that nobody other than me could get into my apartment without sirens louder than the police department going off, I was still checking under my bed, putting a chair against my wardrobe, with all the lights on and the TV playing in the background.
"Well, I know it's none of my business, but then again, he's my brother, so it kinda is- but you guys seemed pretty close the last time I saw you, and then you just stopped talking, and now Levi keeps making ridiculous excuses to come over. Levi hates this place almost as much as he hates the thought of me living in it." I took a deep breath. "You have any idea what's going on with him?"
I studied my palms. "Urm... I'm not sure. Can I talk to you later about this, I was just heading out?" I found that, recently, I just couldn't sit still. I felt like I was deteriorating with every letter, passing car or strange glance off a passerby. This wasn't normal, even for me.
And just as the thought passed, it was like something switched inside Luna's head. "Are you okay?" She took a step towards me.
I looked away, covering my face with my hair. "Yep, I'm just a little busy at the minute."
"Okay..." She began. "Where are you heading?" I was about to go to the library. It was better than the silence of my apartment and much better than the confinements of work, along with the reminder of last night. Besides, I should just take a day off.
"Just a walk." I muttered, pulling on the threads of my jacket.
"You mind if I join you? Job hunting is hard."
I couldn't protest, as Luna was already backing into her apartment, and just as quickly stepping beside me with her purse and coat in hand. She was just as pushy as her brother. I smiled lightly at the thought.
"So, how have you been?" She asked casually as we made our way down the steps.
Did she know something was wrong? Could she tell? No, of course she couldn't. She was just making conversation. "I'm... Good. What about you? What happened to working at Zeuses?"
"Ah..." She began biting her nails. "That. I'm just... It wasn't really for me. The boss, she's just a horrible lady. I don't know how you can work with her."
I nodded in acceptance. "Yeah, she's a little tough- but we don't see her a lot in the studio, so I guess we're lucky there."
The sky outside was closing in on itself, the grey clouds hovering in the air like they were hiding something. There were no shadows because there was no light, so the darkness was everywhere- it didn't have to hide.
Luna filled the silence with one-way conversation all the way to the park, using her hands as gestured, her eyes widening with every enunciation.
We finally made it to the park, taking residence at a two-seater wooden bench that made my spine twist awkwardly. The overcast light grey was giving way to a tremendous dark cloud, hovering behind the light. A storm was coming.
"So, are you going to tell me what happened between you and my brother?"
I studied my palms, trying to think of what to say. "Urm... We just kind of drifted apart I guess. We like eachother, I think he's a great guy," a really great guy. "But, I don't know, some people just aren't supposed to be friends." I lied. Completely and utterly lied. But I didn't feel comfortable going into why we were no longer speaking with the sister of said person.
