Brady POV

"Don't forget that your family tree is due tomorrow!" Ms. Garrett reminded us as we left the classroom. I didn't really know anything about Mom and Mommy's biological families. I just knew about Aunt Alyssa and my grandparents.
"Grandma!" I exclaimed when I got outside of school, "you came to pick me up!" She gave me a hug and said, "How was school?" "I'm supposed to draw my family tree," I told her, "do you think you could help me?" "Of course!" she replied, and we walked to her car.
"Do you have any siblings?" I asked her, and she laughed. "Heck yes! I have 5 sisters and 1 brother," she answered, a smile on her face. I got out my spiral and a pencil, and started writing this down. "Cherisa, Monica, Cecilia, Genevieve, Madelynn, and Sammy are their names," she continued. "Thank you Grandma!" I thanked her, and we pulled up to my house. "Bye sweetie," she called as I got out of the car. "Bye!" I replied, shutting the car door.
"I'm home!" I announced, and Mom welcomes me with open arms, her brown hair scratching against my face. "Can you help me with my homework?" I asked her. "Of course! What do you need help with?" she answered. "I have to make a family tree," I explained. "Well, there's me, Mommy, Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt Alyssa—" she listed, but I cut her off. "No, the real one!" I corrected, and she frowned. "Be careful with your words buddy," she warned, "next time say biological." "I will Mom," I promised.
"I had a brother. His name was Brady too!" she told me, and I smiled. "Really?" I asked, and Mom smiled. "Really," she answered, "I had a Mommy and Daddy, and their names were Christine and Rick." I wrote all of it down, and Mommy came to say hello. "Do you want some chips too?" she asked me, holding out the bag. I grabbed some and said, "Thank you Mommy."
As I ate my chips, Mom told Mommy about my project. "Do you really need my biological family, my little boy?" Mommy asked. "Please?" I pleaded, making puppy-dog eyes. "Fine," Mommy finally said, "But you have to promise not to say anything but their names, understand?" "Yes Mommy," I responded, and she started.
"I had a Mommy named Bri and a Daddy named Ben. My Mommy died when I was born, and my Daddy went to jail. He wasn't a very nice man." I wrote all of it down as she went. "My Daddy had a sister named Amelia. She wasn't very nice, and went to jail too. That's everyone!" She finished, and I started drawing my tree. "Thank you Mommy and Mom!" I exclaimed, "I love you." "We love you too!" they said in unison, and I finished my family tree in peace.

Beth POV

I went to pick up Brady, and a little boy walked up to me. "Are you the Mommy that's Daddy went to jail?" he asked me, and I stepped back. "Silly Brady," I answered, and continued to walk towards the school. Mothers pulled their children away from me as Ms. Garrett walked up to me. "Is what Brady said true?" she asked me, "about the jail?" "He's in very big trouble," I answered, "do you know where he is?"
I saw Brady look at me with a scared look on his face, and he trudged towards me. "Brady Neal Ericsson-Hanna! You are in so much trouble," I practically shouted, angry for things Jaz and I had since moved on from. "I'm sorry Mom. Everyone had all of these interesting families, and...and..." he trailed off. "Mommy is going to be ten times harder on you than I am, so what do you think is a fair punishment?" I asked him. "No Monkey, and no TV," he mumbled. "Was that no Monkey for a week and no TV for a month I heard?" I asked, and he nodded in response.
"Let's go home and apologize to Mommy, ok?" I said, and took his hand. We went home in the car, and Brady's guilty expression told Jaz everything. She started sobbing immediately. "I'm sorry Mommy. I just wanted to fit in," he apologized, sounding very sincere. "That's not going to help you fit in, but I forgive you. I shouldn't have told you," she replied, and we had a family group hug. Time for Jaz and me to join the PTA.
