One Month Later
Learning the power Qui-Gon brought his attention to took a lot of effort on Anakin's part, but he knew it was well worth it. He also enjoyed getting to talk with Qui-Gon.
They'd barely begun to bond when Qui-Gon was killed by Maul.
Things at home were well. Jinn was getting stronger and more alert by the day, and Luke and Leia were a handful as always... but they were good kids. Padmè was happy to have him back. She looked like she had something to tell him, but she wasn't entirely sure of how to- or even what it meant... whatever it had baffled her and she didn't understand.
"What is it, love? He stroked her hair as she cuddled up against him in the bed.
"When you were away, on that journey of knowledge and trials... I could almost feel you- as if you were here with me..."
Anakin wondered at that. "Perhaps I'm rubbing off on you? And the children- perhaps they're doing the same..."
"That's probably true."
Back in the days when Padmè was simply courting Anakin, she'd had her Midichlorian level tested, just to see. It was rather low, but still apparently higher than most normal, non-Jedi beings. She decided to get her levels checked again, just to see if the theory was correct- that it was because she was in close proximity to Jedi, married to one, and had Force-Sensitive children.
When Anakin took the kids to the park for a walk, she called her med droid, RX-2187 and asked him to perform the scan. He analyzed the sample and pulled her old records, running the new scan against the old one.
"Hmm..." the droid said.
She didn't know what that meant, and she was surprised to hear a droid sound curious.
"What is it, Arrex?"
"Mi'lady, your old scan was taken over five years ago... you were at five-hundred and thirty-seven. You are now at about a thousand. From my data, the lowest count of a Jedi is about six-thousand. From my calculations, which I deduced from other scans taken at the time of all your prenatal and postnatal exams, as well as your few mild, common sicknesses you've enlisted my help for- I postulate that your count has been steadily rising since you were expecting the first time. Ever since the second pregnancy, it's been tracking upwards even quicker."
"So, my carrying Force-Sensitive children and being around Jedi all the time has all contributed to this?"
"Yes. I'm only a droid, and not extremely knowledgeable about these things, but scientifically, I can say that the odds are in favor of that hypothesis. After all, your husband's count is almost off the charts... and the children aren't far off."
She nodded. "Thanks, Arrex. I was just curious. I've been able to sense things more than I used to, and I'm not familiar with it... but I'm not afraid... it actually gives me hope."
When Anakin heard about Padmè's discovery, he smiled. "That's wonderful! I mean, I adored you before... obviously... but there's something about knowing that you can feel things in the same way as I do... that's indescribably special."
"I'm rather pleased with it myself." Padmè grinned as he wrapped her in an embrace, kissing her head. She'd put the kids down for a nap, and she moved them slowly into the bedroom. Anakin clearly didn't expect her to come onto him at that moment. It wasn't that her doing so was at all uncommon... it was just- after the twins arrived, she hadn't quite felt like herself for a number of months, and it took her a while to be confident enough to come onto him the way she used to. This time, she'd passed that hurdle early. Of course, they'd made love since Jinn was born... but usually, it was him coming onto her, or they did it because they were bored and wanted to have some fun...
