The sounds of the water breaking along the Nantucket shore roared as the gentle breeze of the afternoon sea gave rise to the cooling of the land around the house. The children were just waking from their naps when the distant sound of Marine One's enormous propellers could be heard off the shore.
As the helicopter rapidly descended towards the landing pad near the sea, the presidential flag that flew over Hammersmith Farms whenever the President was in residence, flapped loudly upon the towering pole.
"He's here," Jackie shouted as she ran out to the deck to greet her husband. Standing atop the high step of the deck leading to the back porch, Jackie nearly leaped into Jack's embrace as he approached her. Eye to eye, Jackie looked deep into Jack's gray-blue eyes and whispered "Hi Bunny," into his ear as she nuzzled her face into his neck, one arm around his neck, the other wrapped tightly under his arm. "Hi kid," Jack replied as he kissed her lips softly. "I missed you," she said with a glowing smile, "and I you," he replied, completely oblivious to the people surrounding them that had just come off the helicopter with him.
Hand in hand, Jackie led him into the house to greet the children. "Daddy, you're here," Caroline shouted as she dashed into her father's arms, John trying to keep up with her longer stride trailing behind towards his father's legs.
"Hey there Button's, how are you," he inquired as he kissed and hugged her tightly. "I'm good daddy, are you ready for your anniversary with mommy," she giggled. "I am," he replied, turning to Jackie with a wink and a smile.
"Hey Sam," he said turning to John knowing he would get a rise out of his son, "I'm not Sam, daddy, I'm John," the replied exasperated. "Oh, I'm sorry Sam," Jack continued egging his son on. "Daddy I'm John and you're a foo foo head," John shouted as he took off from Jack's grasp.
"John Kennedy, how dare you call the President of the United States a foo foo head? Do you know who you're speaking too," Jack bellowed as he chased after his son, catching him mid stride and tossing him on the ground as swarms of daddy fingers began to tickle him all over. "Foo foo head, foo foo head," John roared with laughter as he once again broke free from his father's grasp, this time darting out the door in his underwear and t-shirt.
"Even after only 1 day," Jack began as he eased his way back to his feet from the floor," I miss them so much." "They miss you too Jack," Jackie replied, her eyes glowing as she looked at her husband.
"Where's Patrick," Jack inquired as he removed his tie and jacket heading up the stairs to Jackie's room. "Still napping," Jackie responded as she followed him closely up the steps, "shall I wake him?" "No, no, don't wake him, he needs all the rest he can get to keep getting stronger and bigger," Jack said with love and concern for their infant child whose life had already been full of so much struggle.
Jack was a little more over protective of Patrick as they had almost lost him at birth. He adored all his children but Patrick was a new beginning, hope for the future, answered prayers.
"Very well," Jackie replied, "I'm sure you want to freshen up and get a little rest before tonight dinner?" She asked.
"Only if you'll join me," he responded with a devilish grin.
Although they would be moving into the master suite for the remainder of their stay in Newport, Jack always enjoyed freshening up in Jackie's old room. Something about the lingering smell of her scent in the room, on the towels and in her bed, relaxed him.
Closing the door behind them, Jackie immediately began her quest to seduce his anniversary plans out of him. She figured he would succumb eventually after all, she had no luck thus far getting anything out of anyone else including Mrs. Lincoln and Bobby.
"Bunny," she whispered in that soft, breathy voice that drove him absolutely crazy when she'd lean close into him, nearly brushing her lips on his, 'I know you're planning something secretive for me for our anniversary, but i just can't bear the suspense any longer, won't you please tell me, give me a hint, just one itty bitty little hint," she pleaded.
"Not a chance Jacqueline, not a chance," he smirked as he kissed her forehead.
"But Jack, you know I hate surprises and I like to be prepared and know what I'm doing and where I'm going," she continued to plead, almost pouting.
"Ya right Mrs. Queen of spontaneity, that keeps her secret service detail on their toes not knowing what crazy adventure you're likely to take off on, HA!" He quipped as he sat on the bed to remove his shoes.
Climbing on the bed leaning up against him, rubbing his shoulders, she leaned into his neck, trying every trick she could, "C'mon Bunny, you know you want to tell me, I can see it in your eyes, I can feel it on your body," she whispered as she wrapped her arms around his chest caressing him, " You know you can't resist me."
Grabbing her hands, bringing them to his lips and kissing them softly, he smirked, "You're right my love, I can't resist you, but I can keep a secret," he chuckled.
"Jack Kennedy, if I didn't love you so, I'd have to shoot you," she shrieked.
"Now now, Mrs. Kennedy, are you threatening the President of the United States? Do I need to get the Secret Service involved or shall I punish you myself?" He protested back as he turned and pinned her on to the bed, straddling over her, rendering her helpless.
"Punish me, Mr. President, I love your punishments," she giggled as he attacked her with kisses all over face, head and neck.
