Jack sat at his desk in the Oval Office going over the last details of his anniversary plan.
As he sat there planning, he looked around the oval and his desk and grinned.
"How he loved that desk and how he loved Jackie for finding it for him during her White House restoration hunts," he thought to himself.
The Queen Victoria Resolute desk was the first master piece that Jackie restored and presented to him and he was crazy about it and her. He was so proud of all she had done as First Lady with the restoration, saving Lafayette Square, the influence she had on world leaders and the incredible political asset she had become to him but most of all, he was proud of the woman, mother and wife she was. She never changed to suit his political agenda or was fake about who she was. She remained true to the promise she made when he was elected to be a mother and wife first and then First Lady and America loved her for that.
He sat there in his own thoughts of the last 10 years and how he had given her plenty of reason to walk away from it all but regardless of the past, she remained true to him, she loved him, not for who he was or could offer her but for the man he was and had become over the course of the last 10 yrs. He knew he had failed her so many times but he knew no other woman could or would ever do for him. She was a part of his soul, his reason for being the man he was, the best part of everything he ever wanted or dreamed of and he wanted to show her, prove to her just how much he loved her and how without her, he was nothing.
A smile began to form across his lips as he thought of their anniversary, about her request to be alone with him and the thought of the plans he had in store for her.
Just before he allowed his mind to wonder too far in the X-rated parts of his thoughts, he shook his head and told himself, "Get yourself together Jack, you have shit to do!"
Buzzing for Mrs. Lincoln, he commanded, "Mrs. Lincoln, please have Bobby come see me ASAP."
"Yes sir," she responded, reaching for the phone to call the Attorney General's office.
About 30 minutes had passed when the sudden buzz from Mrs. Lincoln's office startled him, "Mr. President, the Attorney General is here," she exclaimed. "Send him in please Mrs. Lincoln," Jack replied.
"Mr. President," Bobby greeted walking in the door. "Close the door Bobby," Jack screeched as he stood up from behind his desk.
"Jack, what's wrong, "Bobby asked as he closed the door dropping the formality that usually accompanied their interaction when others were present. "Is everything OK? Mrs. Lincoln sounded urgent," Bobby continued before Jack could respond.
"Yes, everything is OK but yes it's urgent," Jack replied. "Is everything set for Thursday, have you spoken to Lee in London, will she be here in time? Is Cardinal Cushing good with the plan? Is the secret service on board? But most of all, is Jackie on to any of this?" Jack rattled off in such a fury, Bobby began to laugh. "Yes, yes, yes Jack, breath, it's all set, Jackie doesn't suspect a thing and you need to relax and stop worrying about it," Bobby replied still in a slight giggle.
"Ha, easy for you to say Bob, you're not the one trying to pull this off without Jackie, the press and every family member knowing," Jack retorted. "I want this to be perfect! Nothing can go wrong and Jackie cannot suspect what I'm doing. You and Lee are the only ones that know anything and Jackie thinks Lee isn't coming so she has no reason to question her about anything. I need you to make sure everything is set. You know I can't do too much without raising suspicion from Mrs. Lincoln and sure enough, Jackie would get it out of her somehow," Jack continued before Bobby interrupted, "Oh please Jack, you could cut off Jackie's head and ask Mrs. Lincoln for a hat box to put it into and Mrs. Lincoln wouldn't question you one bit."
"Yes, Jack interrupted, "Mrs. Lincoln is loyal to a fault until Jackie sweet talks her and she can't lie to Jackie, ultimately spilling the beans when Jackie turns on that amazing charm of hers.
"So true," Bobby laughed, "That's why I haven't said a word to Ethel, she can't keep a secret for nothing, especially if Jackie starts up on her."
"OK, so you have it all under control," Jack questions again. "YES Jack, Yes!" Bobby exclaimed with amused frustration.
"When are you heading up," Bobby asked?
"I'll leave Wednesday afternoon, arrive in time for the anniversary dinner with her parent, the Bradley's, Alsop's and I don't know who else," Jack continued, "after that, game on."
"So when do you want Lee and I there," Bobby asked?
"I'll be taking Jackie for a sail Thursday morning, followed by a picnic lunch. While we're gone, you and Lee have to set everything up. There will be a hand full of staff there to help but not many. They will take care of dinner and help with the grounds, you'll have to instruct them and Lee will have to get Jackie's dress ready that Oleg made for her and she'll bring Jackie to our meeting place," Jack explained almost without a breath between words.
"I spoke briefly with Lee but not long as not to arouse suspicion, I'm counting on you brother for this to all work," Jack continued with a worried look.
"We've got this Jack," Bobby said trying to easy Jack's concern, "I've never let you down before and I won't now. I know how much this means to you and Jackie will be beside herself when it's all done."
Relaxing his tone a bit, with a glow in his eyes, Jack spoke softly, "Bobby, I need this to be perfect for her, she deserves this and so much more. It's only a fraction of what I owe her after all I've put her through and all we've been through. You have no idea how much I love her and want to be the man she deserves."
"I have no doubt," Bobby lovingly replied to his brother," I know how much you love her! It may have taken you a bit longer to realize it and show it but she knows it as well and she's crazy about you. Otherwise, why would she have put up with you all these years," Bobby said with a chuckle.
"I've changed Bobby, I have and it's all because of her. I did it for her and our family and I don't care who knows anymore. I want the world to know that Jackie is my life and be damned anyone or anything that tries to come between us and that includes this office, "Jack said with sternness, much to Bobby surprise. "I would give it all up if she asked me too," Jack continued, his tone much softer then Bobby was used too.
"She would never ask you that Jack," Bobby said trying to comfort his brother," she loves you too much, knows how much this office means to you and how much this country needs you and her too for that matter. You two bring majesty to this country and she's finally realizing what a difference you both have made to this country and world. Your time isn't up yet, Jack and neither is hers. Just keep loving her and together you both will rule the world," Bobby finished before patting his brother on the back.
In a surprising gesture, Jack turned and hugged his little brother, "Thanks Bobby, I love you and don't know what I would do without you."
Hopefully you'll never have to find out," Bobby chuckled.
